when ever I have been prescribed Flagyl in the past (for non lyme treatments) it has always been prescribed with Cipro. I have always felt markedly better when taking these, so much so that I remember how I felt even before I was tracking how I felt (if that makes sense.) So I have been thinking of talking to the dr's about either switching to these abx for a while or adding one or the other to my doxy and zythro.
I know a lot people use flagyl for lyme (a cyst buster right?)
but is there any reason to pair it with cipro for lyme or are there better abx for it to be paired with? or is there something to be said for remembering feeling so good on it?
part 2 of this question...has anyone heard of pulsing 3 meds 2 days each, and one day off...
flagyl for 2 days, tetracyline for days, rimfapan 2 days... and one or two days off and then start again. Does this sound like a viable combination and schedule?
I would love to hear from those who are pulsing with different abx at different times.
as always your insight is greatly appreciated.

How does the doxy&zithro match up with whatever
you remember with the flagyl-cipro combination?
Cipro I believe would be to help
neuroborreliosis and the flagyl would do what the
flagyl does but pulsing has never been a favorite
of my long time llmd however I have had other
llmd in Florida attempt this approach(I felt even
after having some initial success with pulse
regimen ultimately not something I would
recommend. However on the other hand, flagyl can
lead to peripheral neuropathy if you don't
already have it with just the lyme and cns or
brain involvement{infections})or ultimately
the lethargic affects of say metronidazole
getting worse and leading to clinical depression.
In any case-the patient is the best judge as
to how well one combination of abx/antifungal
may work as each case is somewhat (dna/rna
differences)different from person to person.
Which is why each patients own immune system has
a difficult time recognizing the symbiotic
spirochete....when the little guy exits the
patients individual cell it carries part of the
patient(cell)with it as part of it's own
defense mechanism.
hope you've discussed the affects of cipro
and flagyl versus doxy and zithro with your llmd!
If not, why not?

Cipro would help bart, not Lyme. Flagyl is usually paired with abx that create cysts, like ceftin. There are a number of drugs that create cysts.
I can't imagine pulsing in the manner you described. I've never heard of taking Rifampin only 2 days a week. And all that (weak approach) followed by 2 days OFF??
I hope you have an LLMD who has restored the health of MANY MANY lyme patients.

thank you zman. I have had only one visit with my LLMD it was mostly about my history and taking some tests, I did mention my memory of the cipro/flagyl combo and the llmd was intrigued. the next meeting is a few weeks away and plan on discussing this, that's why I am asking for input now, so I can make the best use of my meeting...seems like the time in these visits fly and you don't get to all you have been thinking about.

Quick pulses are not my favorite. With Flagyl, it may be better to stay on for 2-3 weeks at a time and then take a week off. Sometimes on the off weeks you'll notice a spike in health, which would otherwise be masked by the often foul mood inducing Flagyl.
Good drug but really puts the hammer down so-to-speak...
