Or must it be taken straight as is? I'm concerned about the alcohol content in this product due to yeast issues etc.

What are thoughts about this?

Thanks.

You can relax. It need not be so strong or painful to take this.

It SHOULD BE in water, really. All alcohol tinctures SHOULD BE always in at least 1/3 cup of water.

You can use more water if you like and sip slowly or drink it down. Chase with a little more water if you like - or put a little coconut oil in your mouth if there is burning. You could even do a little coconut oil first if your mouth tissue is tender.

Straight, the alcohol can be just too strong of a shock to all systems and irritating to mouth, throat, GI tissue.

As for the yeast, good question. The herb itself seems to have antifungal properties.

I'm not sure it is necessary but NYSTATIN could be added to your treatment, though (see second link below).

Probiotics, away from all Rx and herbs, are also still important.

Where possible, tinctures are best in glycerine (or take powder extracts)-- but for this one (and a few others), only the alcohol tincture is available (or maybe only the alcohol tincture works) and it is such a good herb that benefits are worth it if it helps you.

Keebler, as usual, you are so helpful and informative!

Thank you for the great links on cryptolepis.....I'm glad that I can take it in water

Also happy to hear that it has antifungal properties as I have developed a white tongue and I don't think the nystatin (500,000 unit tablets 2 -2 xday) is helping at all.

I started the cryptolepis 3 days ago at a low dose so I'm hoping it will help the fungal issue as soon as I get to 1 tsp 3xday.

If you developed a white tongue AFTER starting cryto, you probably need additional anti-candida action.

If the white tongue started before, if you don't see some improvement very soon, you still may need more action.

That nystatin you are taking, you stated that it's pill form. Look at the product insert you got with that (or find it on line) as to if you can melt it in your mouth. If not, see if you can get nystatin powder to do a mouth swish and swallow.

Olive Leaf Extract might also be a good addition - powder form. SEAGATE brand is best but your LLMD should advise you as you seem to be on specific protocol.

Of course, you can also melt some of the probiotics in your mouth - just put in a little water first as putting powder into my mouth, I always seem to breathe in at the wrong moment and wind up coughing all the way to Mount Rushmore.

You may need to up your dose of probiotics, still taking away from Rx and herbs.

Good luck.

Thank you Keebler for your advice re white tongue.

White tongue started before I added cryptolepis .....as soon as I started taking Doxy, Plaquinil and nystatin.

Question: should the nystatin be taken on an empty stomach away from abx or does it matter?

Olive Leaf Extract sounds like a good idea.....what's the best way to take with the other things I'm on?

I think I'm taking a lot of probiotics: 2 VSL#3 packets a day(900 billion each) 2 theralac a day and 2 florastor a day.......do you think the florastor could be adding to my yeast issue.....I'm taking it to avoid getting C Diff.

Thanks again Keebler for your help!

If anyone else has any other advice please chime in.

JJ29 - the seagate OLE is on sale buy one get one free now from here:
http://www.allhealthtrends.com/seagate-olive-leaf-extract-250vcaps.html

I was just about to buy some from Amazon today, and thank God I ran into that link on this forum here.

What's the best place to buy cryptolepsis? Is that standard treatment for oral thrush?

Keebles: Do you think there is anything wrong with the liquid form of OLE? I had previously thought that the liquid form would be good for thrush, but sometimes I think it actually makes the oral thrush worse. What do you think about this?

I use Barlean's. It doesn't have any additives, and they brag about how they press the leaves immediately after they're picked.

Thanks

James,

Cryptolepis is primarily for babesia help and it's very hard to come by as it comes only from one region in Africa and only in tincture.

It should only be used under medical supervision for various reasons.

I would not take cryptolepis for any other purpose other than for malaria or babesia, and leave it to those who are treating the very specific issues for which Cryptolepis is most intended.

There are a million other things to use against candida.

As for OLE tincture, that can be good as a mouth rinse but, for oral ingestion of OLE systemically, I think capsules of extract are best to cut down on the alcohol (as it can clobber the liver).

I think it's best to save the alcohol tinctures for mouth rinsing and for those things that only come as a tincture and serve a very specific purpose.

JJ29,

Ask your doctor what she or he prefers regarding how / when you take nystatin.

You might check on all the ingredients in that pill - sometimes they add all kinds of dyes, etc.

Google: manufacturer name, nystatin

Also, then Google: nystatin oral suspension

Find one that has no artificial stuff added.

The powder form may work better for mouth swishing - but the pill form may work better further down the G.I. tract.

And the pill form may have a coating that is not supposed to be broken until inside your stomach or further down. With the additives in the pill form, it may cause undo irritation if broken up for mouth swishing.

Also, OLE can be very good. However, as you are taking cryptolepis, I would not combine the two unless you talk with your LLMD FIRST. They may counteract or interact with each other.

Yes, the Seagate OLE capsules are very good. Best to always start low and slow. But, again, your LLMD has you on a very specific plan. Any changes can upset the desired outcome.

For mouth swishing, though, an OLE tincture to swish with water - and then spit out should be fine as you won't be ingesting it. Herb Pharm is a U.S. company (Oregon) and good quality.

You could do that every hour. Just a few drops of OLE in a half cup water for several good rinses.

Herb Pharm - Oral Health Herbs

All these can be strong to tender tissue, add just a couple drops to 1/2 cup water.

Still, if you do more than rinse and spit, your doctor needs to be on board first.

Sea Buckthorn Oil

Very soothing for mouth tissue. Can also be swallowed. It SHOULD be swallowed. It's good for the brain, too.

It would work with any protocol as it's not like other herb action (but do read all about it). The particular fatty acid in it is VERY soothing to the mouth and entire G.I. tract.

This is the best price I've seen for this and a very good quality. This is what help me with burning mouth and mouth ulcers.

I can't say how it works with candida as I don't have candida issues. But, I can say that is the ONLY thing that does not burn my mouth - and the oil is thick so the comfort lasts. Ahhhh.

It also helps against overnight dry mouth.

It is, however, orange. It may stain teeth a bit. But my concern is KEEPING my teeth (runaway gums put me at risk). My teeth are not much different in color than from all the tea and powdered herbs I've taken.

NEVER whiten teeth with any chemicals. It can be very damaging to the tender tissues and nerves. Teeth are not supposed to be snow white.

If you use baking soda, let it dissolve first so as not to scratch tooth enamel.

Always rinse after consuming any acid foods and wait a bit to brush.

Thanks, Keebler for all the great info.....I will check further into the correct use of nystatin......as you suggest I will only rinse and swish
with herbal tinctures like OLE etc.

James, thanks for the link on the Seagate OLE......Keebler responded
well to your question regarding cryptolepis.....I would only use this under LLMD supervision.

Pau d'arco would also be excellent for as mouthwash for someone with candida. Same principle of just swishing and spitting unless first conferring with LLMD as it could also change the overall effect of any protocol.

It also comes in powdered, tea, and capsule forms and is in many of the formulas at Rain-Tree, an top quality source on all levels.

Come to think of it, a TEA might be best as a mouth rinse, that way there is no alcohol at all to burn tender mouth tissue.

They don't have tea bags but they do sell a powder form of this. You just have to go through a few links to find it.
