My PCP wants me to go back on Doxycycline since I can't afford to see a LLMD right now. I have read here that 400mg/day is the recommended dosage. I wonder though, how long is it okay to be on doxy by itself?

Will I be making my Lyme worse by being on it long-term? I don't want the Lyme bacteria to build up a resistance.

It will likely be at least six months if not longer until I can afford to go back to my LLMD, so I just want to make sure it will be okay to just be on doxy for that whole time. I can't afford to make myself worse right now.

Husband has been on Doxy for 7 months. Just stay out of sun.

You could stay on Doxy or Mino for years (or even the rest of your life if it helped you and that's what you wanted to do).

It is commonly used long term to treat other conditions, not just Lyme. It can be used to treat other infections, rheumatoid arthritis, various autoimmune disorders, and even acne.

Take it while you wait to get in with an LLMD. Waiting and doing nothing will not help, if you have Lyme you will get sicker.

Thanks for the replies, this is good to hear. I guess my main hesitation is that while I was seeing my LLMD I was on combination therapy the whole time. Doxy and something else, then we changed to two other meds. So I wonder if it will actually do me any good to be on doxy by itself for a long time?

Might it actually help me get better, or maybe just keep the Lyme from getting too much worse until I can start seeing an LLMD again? I should add that I have been sick for 16 years, but only started treating Lyme a year ago.

I've been on it for 11 months straight. 200 mg twice a day. I just recently started pulsing it - taking it only 3 times a week and doing herbals along with it. It has definitely helped me, but I don't think I've had Lyme for more than two years (though it IS possible). Good luck!

I've taken doxy for almost a year now. I am better and working. I believe it has helped. Of course, I'm doing many other things also.

Thank you, everyone! I am surprisingly excited to be starting some kind of treatment again. I know it isn't ideal since I also have Bart & Babs, but it is something!

And to top it off, I found out that Doryx 100mg tabs are covered by my insurance! Doxy was so hard on my stomach the first time I took it last year, so this is really exciting to me. Especially since I'll probably be on it for a while.

I hope you don't mind if I add a question to yours. What is LLMD? I have one doctor who wants me to do doxycycline again for 6 weeks, but another doctor who has me on homeopathic stuff for lyme. does anyone know if I can do both at the same time. I'm in the middle of the homeopathic program and I don't want to stop it but the other doc is pretty concerned and wants me to start doxy soon.
