I just hit the "search" button near top of page and typed in "bicillin" and "lump."
When I thought I was going to have to get these injections, I found a few nurses/retired nurses in my church and they agreed to give me the injections.
You can't give them to yourself as a general rule.
I read all the old threads on LymeNet to get all the info on the best way to keep from getting these bicillin lumps.

Thanks for the link. I'm doing these now as well.. I've only done 3 so far, but I did notice that the last one left a lump that lasted for about a week or so. The shots do hurt, but it's worth it if they help!

I have the nurse at my dr's office do them. I have had too much pain doing them myself. I would try to find a nurse if possible. I keep mine out for 1/2 an hour to bring it to room temp. It hurts more when it is cold.

Yes, I would leave it out for at least 1/2 hour.. I leave mine out for an hour. Luckily my mother in law is a registered nurse, so I have her give me the shots.

My husband gave them to me 3x a week for 5 months. I think he kinda liked playing doctor! Lol. I had a lump on one side that has now gone away. It did take a while though, a couple of months? Did he give you a script for smaller needles and Lidacane sp? R

My husband did mine for six months. I started by having my PCP do them, but she was always in such a hurry and they really don't hurt as much if you go S-L-O-W-L-Y!
My LLMD wouldn't prescribe Lidacane for some reason but had a friend give me some and it really does help. I only had enough for a few shots though.
My doctor would prescribe Emla Cream which will help with the actual injection. I found that leaving it on 2 1/2 to 3 hours (longer than they said) did actually help.
We had a nurse come out and show my husband how to do them and there are a lot of You Tube videos showing as well although be selective since I know some were a bit out of their minds.

I was blessed because my neighbor is a retired nurse.
I remember leaning against counter putting my weight on the NON shot leg turning my foot in on the shot leg going slow.
I never was sore. course I do have alot of protection there.... PM me if you have any ?

The most important point is to avoid getting Bicillin into a blood vessel. Always aspirate. Inject up high on the glute (Fewer blood vessels).

Google images for ventrogluteal and dorsogluteal muscle injection sites. Rotates these sites.
Ventrogluteal (hip area) were my favorite sites, they were less painful.
When the shot is being administered, try to relax your muscle as much as possible. If you are tense, it will be harder to push the medicine in, it will hurt more.
After the shot, massage the area. Walk around for a few minutes. Apply heat to the site. These things will help prevent lumps and reduce pain.
