I have been feeling bad with sore throat and cough, and now a runny nose for a few days. I have been feeling better before I caught this, hopefully signs pointing to immune system working again!

I have heard this can be a good thing, but it doesn't feel too good though. Any suggestions to shorten the duration of a cold?

One week later I still have a cold, symptoms seem to be just getting worse. The first few days were just sore throat and feeling kinda crappy, now runny nose and head pressure too.

Is it possible I have a really long lasting cold because my immune system just kicked back in or something? Anyone else get colds that have a slow onset and seem to last forever?

When I got a cold recently, I took a double dose of liquid elderberry extract (Sambucus), and also a strong sublingual elderberry tablet.

This was on the second day of the cold.
I took the elderberry, and half an hour later I didn't have a cold any more.

Elderberry extract is antiviral.

Ramp up your vitamin C. until the stools become loose, then back down a bit.

Adding in some Elderbery, as was already recommended should help.

Same symptoms for me too. Minor scratchy throat started right after xmas. We had a good size crowd of 15 adults (but no kids). A few folks had the cold/flu making the rounds.

By the weekend I was caughing, sneezing, nose running like a faucet, and bad sinus pressure.

I had just started IV Rocephin on Dec 19, and have not had a cold/flu in a long time since prior to my Lyme symptoms ramping up in 2008.

So do I have cold or a herx? This is my second year on ABX and have never herx'd like this before. I'll be looking for some AlkaSelza Gold during lunch break.

Any input?

I went to the Dr. today and told them about my week long+ cold and how it is getting worse. Dr. looked at my throat and ears and said it was red and swollen. She didn't do a culture or anything though.

She rxd a z pack. Im kinda scared to take it if it will cause a herx. I will probly take zithromax eventually for bart but I just don't want extra herxing on top of feeling bad. Does anyone know if zith herxes are really bad?

Gigimac

I've been on Zith with various other ABX combos for almost a year now. I think its one of the lighter ABX varieties that LLMDs use in combination to help other stuff work better (i.e. like Zith/Mepron, or zith/IV-Rocephin).

Zith is said to be pretty safe for longterm use and not to harsh on the gut.

My cold symptoms had grown pretty severe by yesterday. So I found some Alka-Seltza Gold last night. I know this is used for stomach acid and not for colds, but wanted to try out the detox theory.

I did a dose at around 6:30 and again at mid-night. My cold symptoms dropped to less than half and I had the best sleep in a long time. Took another dose this am at work and so far only minor cough and runny nose remains.

Maybe the cold just broke on its own, or the symtoms were indeed an IV-Rocephin herx from hell... I may never know.
