So we have hear that expression before...but how does it feel when your heart really skips a beat.

I know it is commond with lymies...I am trying to figure out if this is what I am getting...

I mean is a real skip or just the feeling cause but thoat or esophagus spasm.

I just get is for a second or two. feels like my throat or esophagus is twitching...

I made an appt with a cardio just to make sure...any insigh would be really good right now. After having some very nice months, this issue has taken all my joy away :-(

I don't think it would feel that "high" .. esophagus/throat is a bit high. Mine is like under the sternum. It's scary, so I think you'd know if it were your heart. (??)

Always good to have it checked out. I wore a holter monitor years ago when I was getting palpitations and ended up having heart block. Luckily I needed no pacemaker or meds. Unfortunately they didn't diagnose me with Lyme until 6 years later!

As I understand it, usually palpitations are when your heart doesn't skip a beat but delays a beat. The pound you feel in your chest is your heart "catching up" with the flow of blood. I still get palpitations when I am dehydrated, anemic, or my thyroid/adrenals are out of whack.

If you exercise be sure to stay hydrated. I'd say that is the most common cause for me.

Thanks folks...I did make an appt with a cardi just to make sure...

I also when for a bike ride just to see if I felt any different. I had no issues elevating my HR.

That's good, philly!

country mouse said, "As I understand it, usually palpitations are when your heart doesn't skip a beat but delays a beat. The pound you feel in your chest is your heart "catching up" with the flow of blood."

That is it EXACTLY! I've never heard that before! It describes what I feel when I have palps. It's like all of a sudden my heart is trying to catch up.

In all I am doing very well compare to a year ago...

and one thing I learn from Lymes is to take every day as it comes...and try not to worry about things that are not in my control

I can't take the credit! That's how my doctor described it to me [Smile]

Funny thing is that I dont feel anything on my heart really...

I have had palps before and this is not it...

is more like a if something was moving right bellow my adams apple...

You know the feel you get when you get really scared about something...you feel it in your thoat...that is what I feel but there is not panic after...it lasts a second or maybe 2 and then is gone...

I am thinking is could be empty reflux if that is event possible

When my heart skips I usually feel it in my throat. Magnesium Citrate is the only thing that really helps stop this from happening.

Here is a link to the capsules:

ditto on the Mg Citrate

Can't say for sure but the heart skips were there before and now are gone - could be the Mg - and I have heard that that may be my problem

it used to feel as if my heart burps

I had to stop and felt it "go through", like a bubble, and it felt scary but was over and then seemed just fine a second later - that's what mine felt like

a nurse gave me a name for it - some three letter abbreviation, I can't remember - she seemed to think it was harmless (not life threatening) and she said to take the Mg

it could be something else for you - better get the heart checked, you kinda need it all the time!!

I was getting this daily before starting antibiotics. Its heart palpitations for me. Has just gotten worse again by starting flagyl. My heart checks out fine and if yours does too, then I would blame it on the lyme.

Harmony -

"I had to stop and felt it "go through", like a bubble, and it felt scary but was over and then seemed just fine a second later - that's what mine felt like"

that is what I feel...wow you nailed it...I think the 3 letter might be PAC...with I also hear is harmless. I have my appt tomorrow.

i had this for quite a while. my heart rhythm would go "beat, beat, beat" and then a big thunk. like you squeezed it with your fist. then my chest would sort of hurt and then it would go "beat, beat, beat" real fast and then settle down.

i had the halter too and it didn't show anything. they said it was "mitral valve prolapse" whatever that was.

never gave me anything for it, even when they said my heart was enlarged. just said to loose weight and watch it.

it certainly is scary tho. happened mostly when i laid down.

Saw the Cadio today...EKG all normal. Exam all normal. Told me it could be comming from the heart but maybe not...said my heart looks healthy so even if it was a skip or palps it would be nothing to worried about.

Set me up for an ECO, Stress test and a 2 day monitor just so see if we catch during a test.

I just finished lots of testing and consults with my Cardiologist.

I have the throat feeling also as you explain.
It's actually an extra beats but feels like it skips; mine is in the Atria.(A fib ) and exercise induced. I (skip) every 3ird beat and gradually recover over the next several min. It doesn't have to be lyme but it's a good guess. It is an electrical problem in the heart.

Atrial fibrillation, or AF, is the most common type of arrhythmia. An arrhythmia is a
problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat.

google "Arrhythmias"

Al,

Thanks for the info. The only difference with me is that the feeling only last for a second. He mentioned PAC / PVC which I guess are also concider Arrhythmias. He was not too concerned.

The test he ordered were more to run anything else out

I am trying to document this as much as possible for other folks that might see this in the future.

So I think I have a better explanation for what ever it is that I am feeling...

It is like a small adrenaline rush that last a second or so. I have been trying to check my pulse to see if I feel anything in my heart.

It happend while I was checking my pulse and I really did not feel my heart raising at all but I do feel it pulse getting stronger for a second or so....which makes sense giving that is what an adrenaline rush gives you :-)

So one think I need to look into is to make sure my adrenaline glads are ok...

This can also be explain at a herx maybe...ok that is it for now

UPDATE:

Had an eco and stress test and both came back normal.

I also had a monitor for 24. On my follow up he said it was normal but that I had 5 skips which falls way under the normal he said. Told me he had a patient that had 15k a day.

He said they are not a concerned because my heart is otherwise healthy.

They have gone down a lot but I did get 2 almost back to back today. I did not take my mag this weekend because I was away from my house and forgot to take it...many this is the connection because I started to retake mag the week they started and they stopped for the most part.

Again the doc and everything I read said this is ok but a bit scary. Hope the go away or that I just learn to deal with it :-)

I think there is a small link between my eating habits and the skips. Yeah I also see the link between the skips and the mag but they started to happen back during the week after Christmas when I was pigging out on food. It happened for a few times and then stopped. They started again a day after eating some mild spicy food. Today I had a big lunch and I felt them too. My doc told me some of the never that control the heart beats are very close to the digestive tract so that it is often related. Bottom line is that I need to really watch what I eat and make sure I take the mag.
