I am much better from chronic lyme and coinfections after several years (4) of treatment. I am currently maintaining my health with just herbs. However, I have discovered that my adrenals and thyroid are very out of balance and I believe many of my sex hormones are out of balance, as well. I happen to know that my free testosterone levels are extremely low.

Any ideas on how to get things back into balance and how long it will take? I am currently on adrenal support and am getting close to my optimal dose of thyroid hormone.

I can't advise, but some people use iodine- on their skin- to help. Works for me.

They paint a 2 x 2 inch patch on their inner forearm a couple of times of week. Or, if you are like me, I draw pretend tattoos on me- boats, trees, etc. Of course I am NOT an artist so it looks silly. But it makes me laugh.

Once the iodine stops absorbing quickly, it is said you can reduce the applications.

A lot of people use Lugols Iodine, ordered over the internet.

I was able to completely stop thyroid meds because of it.

But of course check with your doctor as this is NOT medical advise, only my opinion.

there are doctors that use bio-identical hormones. i am not sure what state you are in, but i found one by doing a search. many of them even take insurance.

I did bio-identicals for a long time with no results. I quit them and started taking Vitex (herb). and within 2 months i was getting my periods again, after not having any of 3 years!

The herb works to regulate your hormones, so if you have high it will help and if your low it will help. Its a great herb. I stopped taking it after about 1 year and my periods are still regular now.

Probably takes a few months. (if I could remember, I'd tell you!)

Find a dr who does bio-identicals .. or try the info posted above! Sounds good!

If you are given a testosterone gel, your testosterone level will be up in the normal range in 2 weeks.

This is given only to men. If one brand doesn't work for you (isn't well absorbed) then try another brand.

Some typical brands are Androgel and Testim. You apply them to your shoulders.

I started feeling much better 2 weeks after starting bioidentical hormones...then the fatigue, brain fog and insomnia went away.

What about using menoquil or amberen or some other support system? Are they dangerous to Lyme patients? Supposedly the ingredients are natural herbs. Has anyone tried these?

Ever hear of Maca? It's a root vegetable from South America, used as a dried and roasted powder to balance hormones and increase fertility - for both men and women.

Otherwise, I would seek a doc who prescribes bio-identicals.

This is an area where I desperately need help. I think with treatment some things are improving, like cortisol level, but I can tell my adrenals, and the whole HPA axis, are still not functioning properly. Female hormones are not a problem, go figure.

Before I spend $$ on another herb, please tell me how something like Vitex can regulate hormones?

I still have no fight or flight reaction...what is that...adrenaline? catecholamines? Yet, I still have a difficult time physically dealing with even a minor stressful situation.

Of course, assertively addressing infection(s) along with excellent liver support is top priority, this article may offer some guidance in how to address hormones so that it all can work together:
