Co-infection:

Filarial worms - nematodes

Opportunistics:

Candida - yeast

Clostridium difficile (C.diff) - bacteria

Cytomegalovirus - virus

Enteroviruses - virus

HSV - virus

Salmonella - bacteria (it's a food-borne, but I know several Lyme patients with chronic Salmonella infections)

Varicella (shingles) - virus

This list could get very long, indeed.

I noticed a ? after Q-Fever.

I was just diagnosed with Q and Dr. H. claims it is bacterial and tick related.

You guys are the bomb! I'll go up and edit.

Do you see anything in the "coinfection" list that should be moved to "opportunistic"?

Can we all get honorary MD's:)?

Posted by 17hens (Member # 23747) on :

Yes! [Smile] I think many of us have them already!

I just found these on betterhealthguy...

Coxiella burnetti, Rickettsia, Plasmodium, Toxoplasma

CMV, VZV

Can anyone help me out with these? What organism, what abreviation means, that sort of thing?

CMV = cytomegalovirus

VZV = varicella zoster virus

The list will never be complete and is endless because mutation is in process. We can't find if we don't know what we are looking for without extensive work.

Our DNA and that of those who infect us is getting longer and longer - insects, people, animals of all kind, air, water, etc.

Thankfully, some of the concoctions we can use, especially some of the herbals, work across the board. But until we clean up and lower the toxic burden, it is very difficult.

Opportunistic or not --- the bugs are highly intelligent and we need to understand that their desire for survival is as intense as ours. Right now, we are on the losing side.

I soooo wish it were not so.

Take care.

CMV = Cytomegalovirus
VZV = Varicella
Rickettsia is a type of bacteria that causes Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
Coxiella is a bacteria
Toxoplasma is a protozoa (from cats)
Plasmodia is a Protozoa (Plasmodium falciparum is Malaria)

XMRV should say retrovirus. It's an important distinction.

Hens - what is this list for?

Posted by ktkdommer (Member # 29020) on :

Opportunistic

Posted by ktkdommer (Member # 29020) on :

opportunistic- EBV?
It stays at high titers in chronic Lyme disease as the body can't fight it.

Ooh, you all are gooo-oood!!

I'll go make the changes.

The list? It's for me and my brain.

And for my local support group. Lots of sick people who have been sick for years and lots of newbies and no one is going to a big name LLMD. Much of their health is a big puzzle. I thought I'd list the pieces of the puzzle that I could find.

And for anyone else who wants it.

Great list.

Not sure if this would be classified as a coinfection but it is certainly one to consider when making a differential diagnosis:

Cryptococcus gatti (a fungal infection that can be very serious)

Glad to see Leptospirosis made the list.

In the link below, are a few other "additional" conditions here, such as:

PORPHYRIA; HPU /KPU; CELIAC (genetic / enzyme dysfunctions)

Methylation dysregulation / MTHFR (Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase)

Should all the viruses be under opportunistic?

Don't give up on me now just because this list has no specific purpose...YET!! [bonk] [Big Grin]

Seriously, it took me a long time to understand 1/4 of these illnesses. I'm still working on the rest. By seeing the names in some kind of order, it really helps me see the big picture and so understand it better.

I would think this list would be excellent when considering "differential diagnoses" -- all the things that could be going on instead of &/or in addition to lyme.

http://www.emergingworlds.com/ch_viruses_detail.cfm?vPageid=115

HHV-7 is most closely related to HHV-6 at the genetic level, among all known herpesviruses, and its next closest sibling is human cytomegalovirus (HCMV).

Are HCMV and CMV different or should I change CMV to HCMV?

How does anyone keep any of this straight? Craziness. You're right, GiGi.

Thanks, Everyone, for your help.

Should anything be switched to a different catagory - coinfection/opportunistic/additional?

We are dealing with a very mixed bag. Neither black nor white - but grey. Viressence, for instance, which was created by Dr. K., works on others that are not necessarily viral. That is why energetic testing is so great. When frequencies start resonating, whether viral or bacterial, or other, with the herbal or other products, it will do the job. It may take a while longer, but it will eventually work.

There are also a hundred different mycoplasms, as Dr. K. told me when I inquired years ago between the two I had heard about and the one I had. This is is not new, but has been the problem for many years and therefore makes what we think of as Lyme Disease so difficult to treat.

We are learning more as we go along - constantly. Now we know that it is a disease of the venous system camouflaged by biofilm, and who knows what else we will find along with some of the miasms of our ancestors.

Reducing the toxic burden is primary.

Take care.

You are right, GiGi, this list does not paint a pretty picture. Too many colors that make mud.

There are so many who are so ill for so long. I'm hoping this list may present them with more options of what they might consider in order to find their key to recovered health. For my local support group specifically.

-------------------------
-------------------------

My next question to further organize this list - which on the list are tick/insect born?

I will put an * next to the ones I'm sure of.

Thank you all for your input!

Some of these are redundant. I have my support group today, but will help you fine-tune tomorrow.

I think POTS should go on the list. Maybe Adrenal Exhaustion, and/or Hormone Dysregulation. And CCSVI.

Great list! Great work! Horrible illness! It's alot of work but you may want to try to add some brief treatment options just to give people hope.

That list would scare the junk out of me if I just became ill & saw it. Also, possible order of treatment... That's important & confusing - like everything else.

PS - Toxoplasma (from cats) - protozoa

It's not just from cats. Alot of people get it from eating meat - might be pork, specifically, but I'm not 100% sure.

I would combine the coinfection and opportunistic list. Might make it easier for people to understand.

If you think about it, all infections are in a sense opportunistic. They take hold when we are weak.

Another thought, some infections you have listed as coinfections I would consider as opportunistic in the general population (parasites, CPN, mycoplasmas...).

While some infections that you have listed as opportunistic I would consider as coinfection in the Lyme patient (like CMV...) Confusing right? [Smile]

Really 17hens, these are just my opinion. I think that you've done a great job coming up with what looks like a complete list. This will be very helpful for your support group. They are lucky to have you.

One thing you could you might consider adding is Immune dysfunction/ deficiencies.

sparkle is right, toxoplasma is not just transmitted by cats.

Cat's shed toxoplasma in their feces, so you must take caution and wash hands after cleaning litter box and practice usual hand washing before eating.

You can also get toxoplasmosis by eating contaminated or undercooked meat (primarily pork, lamb, and venison).

Another big risk factor that people are unaware of is not washing hands after gardening and eating unwashed fruits and vegetables straight from the garden!

So basically toxoplasmosis is carried by cats, raw meats, unwashed fruits and veggies.

Suggestions from a friend of mine...would they go under "Additional"? What do you think, should I use them?

This list is becoming so long, I'm confusing myself!! [Smile]

Conjunctivitis, Epi-scerlitis
Optic Neuritis
Otitis Media
Epiglossitis
Candidiasis
Clostridium
Gastroenteritis
Encephalitis
Pericarditis

Posted by sammy (Member # 13952) on :

I think your list is long enough. I would not add your friends suggestions (sorry, hard or should I say nearly impossible to say no to friends).

Otitis media is a common condition. Too common to list anywhere. Childhood illness in my opinion.

You already have Candidiasis and Clostridium (aka C.diff) listed.

All the other "itis" (pericarditis, encephalitis, gastroenteritis...) could/should easily be considered complications from Lyme. They are also often complications of other infections besides Lyme. That is why I would not put them in a stand alone category as additional.

Just my friendly opinion. Try to keep the list simple. You are doing great 17hens [Smile]

17, are you trying to put together a list of all the infective agents that are being considered as a possible cause of Lyme Disease --- or are you trying to put together a list of the conditions, such as candidiasis, pericarditis, etc. that are resulting due to the infective agents?

One is apples - the other is oranges.

C.Diff is an infective agents. Otitis is a condition caused by infective agents and probably others. Neuritis can be caused by more than one infective agent and others. Toxoplasmosis is caused by an infective agent.

But POTS is a condition resulting possibly through infective agents; CCSVI is a condition caused by a multitude of infections and others.
Hormone dysregulation is the result of a multitude of infective agents, environmental conditions.

For instance, Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite transmitted by many possible means, including tick-DNA, water droplets, etc. causes toxoplasmosis that can have mild or serious neuro effects.

These all belong into at least two different categories: (1) infections or infective agents and (2) the symptoms/diseases/conditions they cause. The latter, symptoms, etc. we know is endless, but usually caused not solely by an infective agents, but also by many other factors.

Maybe I am getting lost at what you are trying to accomplish.

Gigi, this list has grown so long (too long) that I am now quite confused myself. [bonk]

I started out thinking about the many people who are very ill and not responding to treatment enough to regain their health

and that often they AND THEIR LLMDs think only in the box (lyme, bartonella, babesia, ehrlichia)

and if I could make a list of other things, common to lyme folk, that they might look outside the box and find that missing puzzle piece needed to regain their health.

This world of lyme&co is so complicated that it takes years to learn it all. I wanted to compartmentalize for those who think like me and are better able to understand when they can see the puzzle pieces laid out in front of them.

I know I can't list all the puzzle pieces but I wanted to focus on the pieces that are more common in the lyme&co world.

I'd like to mark which names on the list are infections from ticks or other insects too. That would help me clarify things more in my brain and maybe it would help others.
