I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 1990 and made a full recovery. Unfortunately, I suspect that having three children somehow triggered a relapse...but my neurologist has diagnosed me with MS. Has anyone else gone through this? I am trying to find a good LLMD to see (anywhere on the east coast). Please send me some comments/info. Thanks.

MS is really a set of symptoms. It's not a disease of itself, although most neurologist are clueless as to the infection links.

If you have lyme, "MS" is very unlikely as lyme can cause MS. So can Cpn, and some people have both lyme & Cpn.

Your inclination is good - begin with a LLMD.

Just last week someone asked the same question. Basic links here:

Lyme can cause MS. I'm sure that there are other causes for MS as well.

The thing about Lyme is that a person can make a full recovery and think they are well, when really the Lyme spirochete has just gone dormant. It can become active again when you undergo stress. This stuff is hard to kill. I doubt if your neurologist is aware of this.

So, I think finding a good LLMD is the right thing to do.

Good luck.

I had a bad ENT that tried to say I had MS when it was crystal clear i had LYME. Positive Lyme test.

Both can have similar symptoms, like demyalization of nerves in the brain etc.

I sent you a local Doctors info.

I had Lyme in 1985, and having 3 kids triggered a relapse for me too! I just started treating.

Can't comment on MS/Lyme, but can comment that pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum can definitely open the door for Lyme to come out of dormancy. My immune system kept Lyme in check for 17 years before I got pregnant, at which point my immune system let its guard down to focus on growing babies...

I got my referral to a LLMD here!

Take care,
Red
