After a year and a half of feeling like I am suffocating, I finally got a positive test for Babesia and the go ahead to treat. ( i cant afford to pay out of pocket for lyme doctors, sorry)

Anyway, I wanted to ask this of you who also suffer/suffered from Babesia. I usually feel somewhat okay during the day until around dinner time, when my air hunger/suffocation/shortness of breath becomes unbearable. It last for hours then it tapers off as it comes closer to bedtime.. everyday.

Some days I dont get it, but most of the days I do. Has anyone experienced this odd daily cycle of suffocation? Any input would be appreciated.

Toboein,

You may want to check out the recent post on 'Defining Air Hunger.' A few of us commented on the incidence of air hunger (or severe inability to inhale a complete breath) in the evening time.

So, have you actually started treating the Babesiosis, yet? The typical drugs prescribed for treating it are very expensive...if your insurance doesn't cover it. There are however, herbal options for treatment.

Let us know!

I believe my doctor is starting me on Mepron + Biaxin. He said something about adding artemisinin after a few weeks.

OH .. whew! I thought you weren't going to treat.

im ill, not crazy! [Smile] thank you for your concern though.

Im worried because my test came positive for 'old antibodies' to babesia.. and i have never treated it before. Why does it not show current antibodies?

I go through same thing on some days, around 4 I get a fever, feel horrendously bad until about now, when it begins to wane. Usually I willl sleep poorly that night and have some sweats

Babs is a big problem for me. I assume this is the Babs and not something else. But at this point, I really am unsure of many things...

Pardon me for asking, but why do you have to wait for a positive test for babs to get treatment? Isn't it clinically diagnosed?

Thank you all for your responses. I really appreciate the input.

Catgirl (that should be my name!) The reason I needed a positive test is because I can not afford to pay out of pocket, hundreds of dollars, for an LLMD. I have to get treatment through my Infectious Disease Doc, who, despite the hatred lots of people on this forum have for those Drs, is a godsend. He really is a caring doctor, and treated me for lyme despite a negative test. If i get a positive babesia test, Mepron becomes 30 dollars, not 1,200 dollars.

Ha ha (I love cats). Toboein, thanks, now I understand. $30 is definitely better than $1200.

Manybites, I am so sorry to hear your story! And I can't believe you only got 2 mos dosage! I guess I just thought that all the LLMDs would treat it. What a bite. It sounds like (after reading Toboen's symptoms) that the babs may have to get really bad before it shows up positive in a blood test? I dunno. I have heard it requires lengthy treatment.

I actually liked Mepron when I was on it (I know it sounds weird, but it tasted like a funky lemon pudding to me). Hang in there everyone!

Catgirl - did you have any of the 'air hunger' symptoms? Did mepron resolve them for you?
