Hi,

Does anyone know if symptoms of tourette's present themselves with Lyme? My eight year old son has a persisting tic, jerking of the head. In addition his school work is declining and he complains of similar aches and pains I am familiar with. I have battled with Chronic Lyme Disease for some time now and the doctors cannot confirm whether or not I got the Lyme before or after his birth.

If anyone knows of an Pediatric LLMD in Central Florida or anyone who has been successful with children please advise.

Yes

A friend of mine in HS had this.
Was Lyme/Cos all along.

Blood tests are unreliable. Imo treat

It's not uncommon for Lyme to run in a family (my mother just recently tested positive and my little brother is now suffering with ALL the Bartonella symptoms)

I think Lyme and Cos are passed much easier than they get credit for. In 100 years they will look back on this time as the beginning of an epidemic.

My eyes have twitched for years. (A Tourettes-like twitching).

I was always told it was "just anxiety".

However, the antibiotics for Lyme & Co have decreased the twitching. When I took a 2 week break from the abx, the twitching came back full force. Now that I'm back on them, twitching is fading again.

Yes, my daughter who has Lyme and co. has verbal tourette symptoms (PANS/pandas)
I do not.
She presents differently than I do.

Yes, lyme can give TS symptoms. I was diagnosed with TS before figuring out it was lyme.

cmer0825 - lyme/babs can definitely cause the twitching. My husband has that. But when you start talking about tourette's issues (especially in a child), you need to also check for PANDAS - this is caused by immune response to strep.

It can get confusing, since there are other symptoms of PANDAS that overlap with Lyme & co. Please be sure to visit www.pandasresourcenetwork.org for critical information. There are diagnostic tests available, such as strep culture as well as ASO and dNaseB titers that can point you in the right direction.

My 9 year old daughter has lyme/babs as well as PANDAS - and our conservative LLMD's treatment of the lyme (which sometimes overlaps with PANDAS treatment) is making it possible to tease out which symptoms are from the PANDAS and which are from the lyme/babesia.

If you find that your child's lyme/tick-borne infections don't seem to be improving, then you'll have a hint that PANDAS is probably in the mix and is not being adequately treated.

Hang in there!

This was my daughter's first diagnosis. She started having motor tics within days of a tick bite.

I just wanted to add that PANDAS is not just caused by strep. It can be triggered by a variety of illnesses, including Lyme.
