I went up like 3 sizes in my pants and shirts. The funny thing is my arms, chest and stomach didnt really gain much weight at all. in fact those areas are the same size as I used to be

However all my weight gain has gone to my hips. Ive put on a few inches of fat just around my hips. My stomach really didnt gain much weight. but I did gain in my lower stomach (area above my pelvis)

Im wondering if any other women on here have gained in this area too? Its weird. I am now wearing plus sizes because of it. I have to wear plus size shirts to cover it or else it looks like a tire is around my hips if I have too tight of shirts

Its quite annoying...

Hips - likely stress hormones involved.

Weight loss at first; then sometimes substantial weight gain (for no apparent reason) is VERY common with lyme.

Too bad a magic wand does not come with reply posts, though. Eh?

Yeah, I don't know if we can really blame weight gain on lyme. I think if we are not careful it could be easy to blame everything on it.

Ellen,

For many of us, yes, indeed: borrelia - or other infections - caused substantial (otherwise unwarranted) weight gain despite the best health habits possible.

PubMed search:

obesity, virus - 972 abstracts

The Potbelly Book in this link explains why lyme and Cpn can have this effect.

He interviewed LLMDs who explained that the weight nearly disappeared for a few of their patients with successful antibiotic treatment (but, of course, if virus triggered, abx would not work):

I've always been told it's better to carry your weight around your hips than your stomach. They used to say that pear shapes were less prone to heart issues than apple shapes.
However, on the Dr. Oz show recently, he stated that it's better to be apple shape than pear??? He's a cardiologist, and he should now but where is he getting his information?

When I was on abx, I felt like I was constantly hungry. (not right away, but about 14 months into treatment) What I did not realize is that it was reflux not hunger giving me that feeling. Couldn't understand why I was hungry when I just ate a short while ago. That's why.

I also find that up to a certain weight, I put it on evenly around my body. however after a certain weight, it all goes in my stomach.

Having tried various meds for reflux, I finally found DGL, a form of licorice that has been helpful to me. Trying to maintain a healthy weight when fighting any disease is difficult. I wish you health and happiness!
Prayers and Blessings ~ melodymaker

Ditto: DGL is fabulous

For those who want more detail: It's Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice.
