was wondering if anyone gets their meds from vitacost, I noticed they are significantly cheaper than a lot, I realize they're not as high of quality than others, like pharmanex, but I really need some more immune ones and I'm already spending so much money on other treatment, would it be worth getting these cheap ones, would it be better than nothing? thanks

It depends on the supplement - sometimes cheap doesn't matter, sometimes it does.

Another online source for less expensive supplements is http://www.supersup.com/

I buy things from both supersup and vitacost. I have no financial interest / connection to either company.

thanks , I was looking at the cheaper transfer factors and reishi mushroom. mostly I'll probably go ahead and order some, I'm on some supposed high qualities from my docs office but just can't afford any more.

Sometimes Swanson vitamins has the same branded

product in their private label brands as some of

the top of the line brands like Thorne. One

example is their Theanine is SunTheanine brand,

which is the same as what Thorne uses. It costs

less than half of what Thorne's costs. I think

they use the same Krill oil that Mercola puts in

his product. Also, if anyone uses Xymogen IgG

2000, please consider this product with the exact

same ingredient (Immunolin) from the same

manufacturer:

Several years ago there was a report that vitacost had unacceptable lead levels in one of their brand name products. Can't remember for sure which one but I *think* it was chlorella. They said they were having the product tested and would get back to me. They never did get back to me. I don't buy their brand name products but I buy other brands from them when they are cheaper than the same brand somewhere else.

I got zinc toxicity from one of Swanson's brand name product called ZMA. That cost me tons of money and set be back in my lyme treatment by probably a year, not to mention I was extremely sick for months and we couldn't figure out what was wrong.

To Swanson's credit, they notified customers who had purchased the product. After some research it turned about to be over 10 times higher in zinc than the label indicated.

In my opinion, this is why Naturopathic doctors often sell supplements. They vet them to make sure of quality and most professionally sold supplements are regularly tested for contaminants and amount of active ingredient.

That said, I know it is expensive to buy professional brand products. I try to go with well known brands that have reasonably good reputation and not off brands like Vitacost or Swanson.

Both vitacost and swansons offer lots of name brand products at very good prices.

Terry,
Which name brands from Vitacost or Swansons are considered 'good' ones?

Its hard to know sometimes which is the best we can afford with the funds we have available. We certainly don't want to waste the money on cheap useless supplements....

Thanks!

I buy NOW brand from Swanson's.

Vitacost has many name brands... Source Naturals, Nature's Herbs, and some NOW brand stuff. Just naming some that I use.

My naturopath sells NOW brand and Solaray in his store. So I do trust both.
