Doctor wants me tIo have a MRI not only am I afraid of being closed in a tube but the lying flat I can't do , get dizzy and feel like I can't breath ... It was hard for me to have a CT scan because of the lying flat.

He insits and says they will sedate me.. I am so scared as I have anxiety and panic over everything.

I know the dread is much worse than the MRI I tried one once before and completely paniced even with the xanax.. They would not finish and said they didn't want to ever see me again as I had them scared.. We do not have open ones and I can't make a 4 hr trip to have an open one as the lying flat is more a problem for me..

tks, venting..

It is difficult. I had one recently, not sedated and was fine, but towards the end I started to really feel closed in. I would ask for something stronger than the xanax, listen to music on headphones, and insist on being removed from the machine after every picture.

It's the lying flat that I can't do.. The closed in I think I could handle. Oh, well is it really necessary I am asking this wasn't my LLMD, that I can no longer afford.. Oh, well.. tks.. was yours okay?

I once had to do the "tube" for 70 minutes straight. They were taking images of my entire spine. It's a bit of an exercise. The one tech said that you just need to get through the first 5 minutes, then you'll be OK. Also, you may want to look at the tube. Although it looks like you're stuck in there, the fact is that it's really quite open on both sides, usually. Oh, and the "open" MRIs don't give a good image in many cases. You want the "tubey" ones.
