I am in the process of having my PTH (Parathyroid Hormone Level) and 24 hr. urine calcium level tested among other things for possible hyperparathyroid issues.
My last two serum calcium levels were 9.1 & 9.9 (ref. range 8.6 -10.2).
Urine analysis indicates high level of calcium oxylate crystals.....at risk for kidney stones.
I have some of the symptoms related to hyperparathyroid including low energy, fatigue, brain fog, low concentration, irritability, sleep disturbances, osteopenia and possibly osteoporosis, low vit D (30).
Do any of you have any experience with this condition?
Have you had parathyroid surgery?
Could lyme/ coinfections, leaky gut or malabsorption issues throw the parathyroid gland off track? Could proper treatment of these issues help to normalize parathyroid function?

you know...someting showed up on a test once to suggest this...then thay did a second test and told me not to worry
but i wonder
they didnt do a 24 hr urine...just a 2nd blood test but it was tesing something different thant first thing
i have many of those sx including the low d even after prescription mega dose and constant supp daily
i really wonder...

Ipkayak, what's your serum calcium level when you get your blood work done? Did you have your PTH tested?

I had an ND energy test me and she came back with Lyme, Bart, CPN and Parathyroid. The first three were also diagnosed by my LLMD. Since I began treating the Bart and many of the symptoms of Bart are the same as Parathyroid I decided to stick with treating the first 3 before going after, if I have it, parathyroid.
My calcium is not high in the range but is above the middle. I do have the constant pain in the upper arm in both arms and a constant soreness in my throat, however that is also in the lymph area.
So if one does have it, do they treat Lyme and they go after the Parathyroid?
I am skipping over the parasites, heavy metals to ask when should one go after parathyroid.

Matth, thanks for your response......your question about what to treat first is interesting because I too am wondering if I have further abx treatment for coinfections if it will help the parathyroid issue to normalize.
I too have an intermittent pain in my upper arms.
I read somewhere (don't remember where) that leaky gut could be a contributing factor with this condition. Anyone know anything about this?

You asked if leaky gut could be contributing to parathyroid issues. I think the answer probably is yes. I just got a new Gluten Free cooking magazine in the bookstore. In the news section it referenced a study that found that celiac patients had twice as many parathyroid issues as the normal population.

Thanks Bea.......interesting info about celiac patients having 2x as many parathyroid issues.
I'm still trying to figure out if I have celiac.....endoscopy last fall according to endo did not indicate celiac.....I know this doesn't really mean I don't have it.
What other tests can I do for celiac and /or malabsorption issues?
