I just left my doctors office regarding awful lower back pain and leg weakness. I had no reflexes in my legs when they checked. I watched her hit my knees with the little hammer thingy but nothing happened.

Is this something that can result from the Lyme Disease?

I'm sitting here now awaiting blood tests and X-rays. If these tests don't show anything they are going to order a MRI.

So worried!

Prayers are with you......Are they doing Western Blot blood test?

Buy the way I had/have both..leg thing comes and goes , back is constant and increases if meds aren't right..

No Western Blot. I saw the tick 5 years ago followed by bullseye rash. Lyme docs have said no need for testing and go by my symptoms. These are new symptoms.

I've not been on abx for a very long time due to digestive/bowel issues. Plus I can't take any medications in capsule form without getting sick an hour after taking. Doctor said has to do with meds dumping all at once.

Thank you for the prayers!

have the MRI please - I found out I had been walking around with a partially crushed spine for years, attributing my worsening symptoms to Lyme!

Then a doc put me on Lyrica which simply masked the problem & made it worse until one night I could barely walk. I had an MRI in April 2010 and surgery 6 weeks later, after being told how lucky I was to still be walking at all.

It is not always Lyme and we too easily fall into thinking it is.

A bullseye means Lyme .. but yes, you could have spinal issues as well.

I also have lower back pain that comes & goes, and my leg weakness is tied in with that, plus some sciatic pain down one leg more than the other, plus hip pain on both sides - all tied in with the lower back & all affected by the weather & exercise.

Lyme can make that worse but many people also just plain & simply have it, so it becomes increasingly difficult as we age to start filtering out what is tick-caused and what is caused by getting older.

And yet - yes, ABX is anti-inflammatory and helps with the aches and pains, making it hard to differentiate.

And when I was off ABX for 6 months last summer & fall, I had a flare up of back pain & leg weakness. So it is confusing .... I do believe it was also caused by my Lyme Disease flaring up again.

I had terrible back pain and leg weakness. It got much better when I began taking liquid magnesium -- which I got at Vitamin Shoppe. Lyme depletes our magnesium levels, which affects our muscle strength.
