I will be watching this and will tell my family to do the same. Even my mom is now telling all her friends about Lyme especially since where I live in Ontario Canada has one of the highest rates of ms in north America. Many of our family friends travel up north to cottages in the summer. And one set of friends he has severe ms and their daughter has untreatable bipolar which developed after she had been at a summer camp 20 yrs ago. They also cottage in a tick infested part of Canada . The word really needs to be spread

I'm watching 20/20 now. The segment on lyme isn't on yet but they are doing one on "misophonia" and I'm watching it thinking that they really have lyme!

Just watched - These types of shows do a real disservice to all of those who are suffering. Even Dr. Phil, if he really wanted to help people, he would do a follow up show and continue talking about the controversy and how lyme persists despite treament

philly78--- i was thinking the EXACT same thing! i had/have some symptoms like that.

now, The building.. out of no where rage and the feeling of guilt and sorrow following it--this is the first time i heard someone explain my rage episodes i have. Triggered by the slightest bit of stress sometimes(not sounds always but sometimes!). It happens once a month now that i've been treating bartonella. (it used to happen much more!)

hoops--- i agree completely. This is such a serious problem and so many people are suffering, it needs to be taken seriously. It seems like all these shows focus on whether or not we're faking it. Hello! Come live with me for a week.

But at least its raising awareness... I would think that shows like this, even though they hardly touch the topic, will lead to more. It gets people thinking about it.

I think this 20/20 thing made Lyme even more stigmatized. That only people with bizarre behavior have that.

Granted, I'd like to see someone get a brain infection and NOT act bizarre sometimes, but that's all they ever focus on.

Well, I think TV showings can vary - we had one of our local patients on primetime TV a couple years ago, explaining that her insurance would not cover her IV med need,

resulting in her insurance company covering her for a little while after the problem got televised.

I was disappointed with the coverage. It didn't convey the truth of Lyme in a way where the masses could "get it". Almost wish it wasn't even a part of the show.

I agree. They made it out to be some freakshow thing that makes people act weird and fake it to get attention. They lumped the story in with a woman who has a penchant for eating rocks!

I'm getting to where I'm embarrassed to tell anyone I have Lyme. I think I will just start saying I have Lupus or something more believable where you aren't looked at like you have five heads and leave people wondering if you are faking your illness.

Ditto. They put people on with bizarre disorders.
