I'm still waiting for testing results back for my 3 year old. My husband, six year old and I have all been diagnosed definitively with lyme + co and are being treated.
I tend to think that my 3 year old is showing symptoms, however, some are hard to separate from a strong-willed three year old temperament. Awaiting results from my LLMD. Hoping that they confirm, or I'll always be wondering.
Anyway, her dad found a tick on the 3 yo today. They had been outside no longer than two minutes. He took it off with his fingers, not the recommended way -- I know. He thinks that it hadn't yet bitten our 3 yo but it was somewhat attached with it's front claws.
I gave her some ledum about 1 hour after her bite, and I just picked up some Astragalus and gave her about 250mg (she is about 40 pounds). I spoke with the associate where I got the astragalus and he said it should be fine with a 3 yo, but I'm wondering if any of you have any concerns with this.
Headed over to the "searching for a practitioner" board to look for a LL naturopath.

I wouldn't have given that to a 3 yr. old without a doctor's supervision but that's just me.
If they were outside for not more than 2 minutes and the tick was barely attached I think putting rubbing alcohol on the area would have sufficed. Then again, who knows how long it was really there.
Is there a mark where the tick bit her?

Because I tend to think she already was infected, I'm even more concerned about a new bite putting her over the edge.
I might have overreacted, but I think I panicked.
My experience has taught me to be concerned. I generally shy away from homeopathy without having a full understanding, but I couldn't not do anything.
There is a small red mark where the tick was. You can see that the skin was broken.
She is extra cranky and tired today, but, I might just be hypersensitive to looking for anything.
Any reason to think I should get her on ABX?

- If the mouth part of the tick has made contact with the skin, I would absolutely get advice ASAP from a LLMD.
I can't say what abx you'd get her on, or if there may be other methods. You need expert advice.
Remember, that if lyme is present and just doxy, alone, is given, that can lock in chronic lyme. Doxy, alone, allows the spirochetes to go into their protective cyst form.
For a young child, of course, treatment safety is best addressed by a LLMD. I sure hope you can find what you need.
As it's evening, you might try contacting your local lyme support group and then calling your LLMD tomorrow (unless you already have a call in that just had not yet been returned).
You say that she had testing before this bite and you are awaiting results. I wonder why you hesitate just calling that LLMD's office with this new question.
It concerns me that you don't feel comfortable asking them what they think. But, I see you are seeking a different doctor, a LL ND.

Thanks, I have a LLNP (not naturopath). It's difficult to communicate with her beyond our scheduled appointments so I didn't actually try. I'll try tomorrow.
I know that Doxy isn't safe for that young of an age. A previous LLMD prescribed her Amoxicillin as a precaution when I found out I had Lyme because I was nursing her at that time.
I'm still waiting on blood tests results that were done last week. I tend to think she has had Lyme for quite some time, not hard evidence, though.
