I found a bug on me today and I'm about 90% sure it was a tick. From the size, it would be an infant tick.
But would infant ticks be out now? I thought they were not out until the summer. I'm in Northern Virginia and we did have a VERY mild winter, so is it possible they are out now?
I didn't save it - it was on my shirt - not embedded and I was afraid of losing it if I went to get a container so I flicked it off of me into the sink and washed it down the drain.

They are out now - in force - even in Boston, because of the mild winter.
Just be careful outside, wear light colored clothing, tuck your pants into your socks if you're headed into woods or grassy areas. A lot of people swear by a pyrethrin bug spray on your clothes too.
It's a lyme jungle out there this year!

Thankfully I was wearing a white shirt, but here's the thing - I had walked on a sidewalk up to and back from my daughter's school. Was only on the grass very briefly, and I'm careful to avoid brushing against bushes, etc. I *might* have brushed a low-hanging tree branch.
I know all about wearing the light colored clothing, tucking pants in, wearing permethrin, etc. if I was going into the woods or gardening or doing yardwork, but walking on a sidewalk? I just can't believe that this is the world we live in now. You're right, it is a jungle. Ugh.

Yes, here in Maryland about a month ago my husband found a very tiny tick attached to his ankle. It took a magnifying glass to show that it really was a tick.
He went to the dermatologist and she said she had 6 tick bites she was trying not to scratch.
It started very early this year with our earlier than normal spring weather.
