You're supposed to take this, Biaxin Extended Release, two 500mg tablets once a day. I CANNOT HANDLE IT. I can handle one tablet okay, but. Can't get in touch with doctor, pharmacist had no idea,
Has anyone here had to take Clarithromycin ER twice a day instead of once a day? I'm sure I can't be the only person out there who ends up taking child dosages all the time. :\

I'm not on the time-release, but take 2 500's twice per day.
Everyone's tolerance for meds is different. Can you take one morning and the other at night?

To be clear, I am talking ONLY about the extended release. The regular form you're SUPPOSED to take twice a day, but the ER/Biaxin XL you're "supposed" to take once a day... So that's my question. Has anyone taken THAT twice a day? Sorry I just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing! Thank you for your responses!

I just looked at my bottle (never did before since I took my LLMD's directions as gospel) and I see what you are saying. I have ER but my LLMD has me taking it twice a day. I'm wondering if he gave me the wrong guidance ???

I took Biaxin ER one tablet twice daily.
Once the med reaches therapeutic level your blood will be saturated and you will be maintaining it by taking the sustained release form twice daily. Does that make sense?
They let you take it once daily for convenience (because it is the ER form) but you don't have to take it once daily. Once or twice daily is fine as long as you continue to maintain the dose.

Yes I have taken the extended release twice a day. Once in the morning once at dinner. I am sure if you have a lower body weight than most you would be fine with once a day. I know a friend who did that.

This is very helpful. Thank you again. (I did a lot of research into blood levels, and twice a day would be so much better if I could handle it, although just one pill seems to be a high enough MIC to kill both Lyme and myco...strange!) Now I know I can at least try this. Then if it doesn't work, one pill a day it will have to be.
