Hello all Just wondering if anyone has taken accutane while treating Lyme? My acne has gotten much worse with treatment....I will be asking my dr about this too...just wanted some opinions. Thanks

My daughter finally had to go on an accutane in the form of Amnesteen. There has been very little conflict with her other medications and the results have been worth it.
It got really, really, bad. You have to follow a strict bloodwork pledge. My daughter signed a waver NOT to go on the pill. The pill...now THAT's bad.

I think I heard it can cause Crohn's. My cousin took it. Was perfectly healthy before. Now has terrible asthma and IBS. I believe it's b/c of the accutane.

Yes, the birth control pill...nasty.
My daughter takes Amnesteen. It's a form of accutane. So far, all it has done is give her dry lips.
She is almost finished with her round. She will probably do another round a few months down the road.
We tried EVERYTHING...I MEAN EVERYTHING else (but that damn pill). Nothing worked. It was the last resort. Her face was almost deformed by acne. It's now clear. There is scarring, but the doctor says it takes up to a year for the skin to heal.

Yeah...I was on the bc for years...Dr finally took me off and my acne has flared up worse then ever!...especially with treatment! UGh! I just don't know what to do... But I had no idea the bc was bad.

My son's friend took accutane and has not been the same since. His whole personality changed. It has been 6 years and it has not righted itself. Changed not for the good either. Also my niece took it and ended up with dry eyes that have never gone away and are very bothersome.
It was pulled from the market for awhile. Why the put it back on I am not sure. Somebody got paid off.
I would not let my kids take it.

That's why the doctor specified AMNESTEEN. It's a little different. Which is probably why my daughter, who was afraid to go on it, has had very little issue with it. Like almost none.

Well thanks Kelmo...I will definently ask about Amnesteen....I thought this was a generic for accutane....I took accutane about 10 years ago...no side effects from it, however my acne did come back with the recent years.

I got lyme we believe in 1996. My symptoms started out with severe acne at the young age of 11. Despite 6 months of tetratcyclines, my acne worsened. I was being seen at Stanford. I went on accutane at 12 and as we said..got sicker...I had to wear sunglasses to school because my eyes were so sensitive to light. I had to get glasses to see distance. I developed joint and muscle pain so badly I had to quit all sports. The nausea is horrible. I went back on mino/doxy till I was 18 to help maintain my skin. After all that I ended up going back on it combined with pretnisone for 8 months in 2002.
Basically, I ended getting diagnoised with lyme in 2005 and who knows what is lyme and what is accutane. What I do know is this. When I get stressed, from meds or life my skin breaks out. My body uses my skin to detox, so when I have a herx, feel sick, etc my skin goes crazy. It doesn't matter what I take. Eating dairy, sugar free helps, but if u are one of those unlucky people like me-then ur body uses skin to detox and u are screwed! No accutane or mino or anything will help u permanently. The risks are not worth it.
Best thing u can do is supplements to help detox and avoid stress. Also try not to push too hard with drugs

sicklyme, sometimes you need a repeat round. If you didn't have much affect from it years ago, you will do fine.
From what I have read about other's affects, it seems to hit the younger kids tougher.
There is a lot of red tape with this medication. Lots of bloodwork, paperwork, etc.

I took accutane in HS (along with a friend of mine) and we both became suicidal. I quit the basketball team and just became discouraged with life.
Clean diet and proper detox will clear up acne 1000000 xs better than any med.

smiles...this goes beyond all the things you mentioned.
I was DEAD SET against accutane. My daughter detoxes like crazy, infrared saunas, enzyme drinks, the best skin care on the market.
For some reason, this reached a point where her entire head was covered in cysts.
She was suicidal because kids would come up and stare at her in public places. She finally quit walking outside at all. She didn't come to family functions.
IT WAS WORTH IT.

I feel like I need to do another round. However my naturopathic Dr. does not want me to at this time because your skin is the biggest organ for detoxification. She doesn't want this to interfere with the ability of the body to detox.
I do think it is worth it for many people...if they can handle the possiblity of the side effects.

I agree the skin is an organ for major detox. That's why I was afraid of it. But, as a young girl who has nothing in her life, a face full of scarring going along with a body full of bartonella scarring was just too much.
She has a sauna that she uses for detoxing. At least until this illness is under control, it's given her a reason to look in the mirror again.

For some people maybe it's worth it. It seems like there should be a better solution. It's just a symptom of a problem. If you get rid of the problem, you will get rid of the acne.
My skin was awful, believe me. But having been on it-twice-and all the side effects that are long term-(btw I no longer have glasses, which I had for 8 years due to dry eyes worsening my vision from the accutane.) Some of the side effects were immediate but some of them took years to decode.
Any way. Everyone accepts medications differently, but I would exhaust all options before going on this, which it sounds like you did. Just sharing my experience.
