"Immune response may be cause of long-term Lyme effects"
Non-infectious proteins of the species of bacteria that cause
Lyme disease can remain in the body for a long time after
antibiotic therapy, and are capable of causing an inflammatory
immune reaction that could contribute to the development of
antibiotic-resistant arthritis, Yale researchers have found.
Although Lyme disease is quickly responsive to antibiotics, up
to 25 percent of patients experience prolonged
musculoskeletal symptoms that linger after treatment, and
some develop an arthritis that no longer responds to
antibiotics, according to the study published in the online
Journal of Clinical Investigation.
Lyme patients who develop persistent, painful joint
inflammation after treatment may be suffering from an immune
response to these proteins rather than a lingering bacterial
infection, the researchers said.
"This study provides the first direct evidence that spirochete
proteins can remain long after the bacterium is gone, and in
places where people can experience symptoms after
treatment for Lyme disease," said lead author Dr. Linda K.
Bockenstedt, professor of medicine and rheumatology at Yale
School of Medicine.

- So many excellent lyme researchers do not agree with that report.
Sad to see the newspapers print that without question. And, if your paper did, all papers might.
And no one will know that Yale is dedicated to discounting chronic lyme. And that campaign will costs lives. -

So Wormser has his little amber theory and Yale has their little protein theory. Seems to be an infinite number of ways to deny that chronic infection occurs.
I always look to see who the authors are before I read one of these things, because certain people are predictable as to whether truth ever comes out of their mouths.
And this arthitis resistant to antibiotics stuff...they mean resistant to a short course, ignoring all the people who are improved with antibiotics and decline without them. Imbeciles or liars, take your choice.

Sounds like just the standard hogwosh theories of the losers/liars.

Do doctors have to check their common sense at the door when they enter med school?! I shouldn't say that because SOME doctors are wonderful but jeesh, here, we have remaining spirochetes and remaining symptoms and these doctors still call it "non-infectious."
