I know many of you have been affected with Lyme for months if not years, and I hope you can guide me to the right direction.

Last week my daughter (8) has been diagnosed with Lyme (blood test, repeat blood test and rash). She has been complaining about headaches the week before.
The pediatrician put her on doxycycline to last for 2 weeks.
Rash has gone, head-aches are pretty much gone as well. She seems to tolerate doxycycline pretty well.

How do I proceed from here? Should I ask for 2 more weeks of doxycycline? Should I see a LLMD?

I am worried to miss a "window" for treatment, but I am also worried about pumping her full of antibiotics.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

transatlantic

I'm surprised they gave an 8 yr old doxy as it can stain the teeth permanently. Depends upon where she is in her dental development.

I would treat until all symptoms have been gone for 2 months.

If it were my child, I would insist on 2 more weeks of abx ASAP. Most people who get lyme disease are able to fight it with no reoccurrence if it's found and treated quickly. It sound like she had an onset of symptoms, including the rash, so she likely contracted it recently...

Only a small fraction of people end up with chronic lyme. Since I already go to an LLMD I would consult her if my child contracted it, but going to an LLMD is an expensive and lengthy endeavor. Possibly you could do a phone consult...

hi... sorry you and daughter have to go through this.

i thought amoxicillin is what they use for kids..either way 2 weeks is not enough...

find a good link about chilren's treatment and fax to doctor if she hesitate's about further treatment...

also set appt with llmd and have it in case... they are usually so far out ,that you could cancel if had to

i just know i wish somebody had helped me and taken care of illness
