I have had horizontal ridges on my thumbs since I was about 8 years old. They don't hurt, but they rise up and then sink into my thumb. So I have a hump on the nail with ridges or a concave with ridges on my nails. I know it is hereditary because my grandmother, children, and grandchildren have them. Anyone else run into this? What does it signify?

You should have your Ferritin checked. It could be that you are low on iron.

I have that, too. I am anemic and have to work hard to keep ferritin up. I never knew it was related, thanks, Haley.

What is Ferritin good for? I've had horrible ridges in my nails for years too.. as long as I can remember... I've been told i'm slightly anemic, but no medical diagnosis.

Same here me too & I noticed I got more of it when getting ill.
I read somewhere that it was a sign of disease or something going wrong with the body, same with fungus in the nails.
