My 25 yr. old son is on doxy and ketek. He's starting flagyl this week. The doctor said it could kick his butt. He also gave us the protocol for this specific drug...gradually building up and possibly pulsing. I'm scared for him! I know we're all different but does anyone have encouraging words or advise? Thanks.

i wouldn't possibly pulse..it's meant to pulse. very easy to become toxic. and can have rough herx's. everyone's different but this is the drug that LLMD's get the most complaints from patients with i think.

in the end..it's a great drug though...detox.detox.detox

Thanks lymenow. Other than lemon water, alka seltzer gold, milk thistle and epsom salt baths, what else can he do to detox? Did you take it? If so, how did you do the pulsing?

that's a pretty good combo and should work well. all that detox you mention is great. i did all those that you mention plus some sauna(a cheap one from eBay) and coffee enemas.

yes i took the combo for 9 months of doxy and flagyl but the flagyl i would take max dose for 1 week of every month. it was always a rough week but showed improvement afterwards.

I am taking alpha lipoic acid to detox also.

We pulsed two days on and one off.

I took Tindamax for 2 months and Fagyl for 3 months and nothing. I did not herx from them and felt some neuropathy from Flagyl the first month and after that oddly it went away. Maybe it was Borrelia dying at the site of neurons, so who knows?

For me, if I take too much flagyl (500 mg, 2x day), I throw up. It's too much for my stomach.

I think that working his way up is good - that is the only way I can handle it. I work up until I am slightly nauseous, but not vomiting. And, I also pulse as well. I don't think I could handle it otherwise.

As much as I DON'T like how it makes me feel, flagyl works - and it works well. I am glad I took it!

I was scared to add flagyl also, but it turned out fine in my case. After starting it, I herxed for a week. The first 3 days were pretty bad and the other 4 days were just half bad.

Because I had treated lyme extensively without any cyst buster, I was put on flagyl continuously for 60 days. That's how I got rid of lyme disease. That was over 7 years ago now.

I had lyme undiagnosed for at least 10 years and had taken amoxicillin only for 2 years straight, so you would think I would have had a terrible herx from it, but it really was not as bad as I had feared.

However, he better stick strictly to the anti-yeast diet because flagyl will cause a yeast infection in the gut if you break the diet. Read it in Burrascano, page 15.

He's so sick right now and herxing, I believe from the ketex still, that I can't imagine more herxing on top of it. He's been sleeping pretty much non stop since on the ketex. Would all of you recommend doing the flagyl as his protocol calls for now anyway?

I pulse two weeks on and two weeks off.

Just be aware it can cause depression. Tindamax is easier to handle than flagyl.

good luck!! [Smile]

I've been on Flagyl for almost a year. Love it. As soon as I stop, I start getting symptoms again.

Took me 4 months to work up to the dose I'm at now, had to do it one quarter of a pill at a time, no more often than once every few weeks.

Herxing was mild because of this gradual increase.

I pulse Flagyl 2 days a week. It makes me feel like I have a fever. I feel like Im burning up on it. Not sure if its the med or a herx. Watch for yeast issues with Flagyl, it really messes with the gut and gives me diarrhea.

I pulse Flagyl 2 consecutive days a week. It's been a month, and I'm building up to the doctor's maximum dosage (I'm halfway there)

Not as bad as I thought it would be. Some side effects and fatigue, but nothing compared to some of the other drugs I had taken (zith, biaxin.)

My poor son has been so sick after almost two weeks of building up his flagyl dosage. His doctor told him to go back to 1/4 tablet once a day for a week and then add another 1/4. I feel sooo bad for him. He's trying to work when he can but he is so sick. It's also causing him lots of agitation on top of the terrible physical symptoms. I HATE THIS DAMN DISEASE.
