well hubby hit the 168 lbs mark this morning. when he started, he weighed 220. This diet thing is horrible. I just don't know what to make for him anymore. I work during the week. What can I leave for him. He needs foods with lots of calories. Following this diet, I bet hes only taking in 1500 calories. Not enough. The diet is sooo contradictory also. No dairy. But in the foods allowed it says "milk". What?? Any help would be truly appreciated.

I have lost over 100 lbs in 3 1/2 years. It is very scary. I eat lots of blended veggies and sometimes I even blend up my meat with my veggies and just drink it. It seems to be easier on my stomach. I also eat high calorie foods like avocados, pure coconut milk, and use olive oil to cook in. If I didn't I would weigh less than I do now. Use coconut milk in recipes that call for milk. Eating many small meals help too. I eat raw almonds for snacks. If he can tolerate Keifer I would suggest he try that. They even have a coconut keifer if he Good luck. Hope he gets better soon. Oh I also make a egg cup which is nothing more than small pieces of meat or veggies chopped and put in the bottom of a muffin tin and then whip eggs and put on top and bake. I think it is something like 350 degree oven for 15 minutes. These can put in fridge and eaten later. I like them because I can vary what is in the filling.

Is he drinking protein drinks? That has helped me to stop losing weight. I use Vega Performance - it is vegan, gluten free, dairy free and pretty much all allergy free. The one I use has zero sugar and only 1 gram or so of sugar.

Good clean protein and calories. I make it with Rice Milk...

Foods with lots of calories are not necessary good to gain weight. Nutrients are the most important factor.

The wrong kinds of weight can appear from foods consumed just for the calories.

Is he able to do any kind of light weight training to keep up muscle tone?

Is he getting enough protein? Eggs are excellent and he can prepare those anytime of the day. (Yes, the whole egg. It's gotten a very bad rap but is really nearly a perfect food.)

Hemp protein powder is a nice standby, too.

Good fats? Nuts cover a lot of good territory.

Complex carbohydrates with at least 2 vegetables with every meal and at least 2 veggie snacks a day?

Quinoa, Black rice, Wild rice, millet (and similar non-gluten whole grains) in measured amounts also help.

THE REQUIREMENTS OF PROTEIN & AMINO ACID DURING ACUTE & CHRONIC INFECTIONS

Indian J Med Res 124, August 2006, pp 129-148

- by Anura V. Kurpad

Fifteen pages of text.

Excerpt from abstract on page one:

. . . In general, the amount of extra protein that would appear to be needed is of the order of 20-25 per cent of the recommended intake, for most infections. . . .

Hungry or not, he has to eat. Somehow. Does he like nut butters like almond, hazelnut or macadamia butter?

Best to avoid peanut butter due to mold but VALENCIA peanuts are grown in a dryer climate and may be less reactive.

I mix Hemp Protein powder with Wheat Grass Powder (be sure it's certified to be gluten-free).

Keebler, Dr H told him he could eat nut butters. The only ones that I found were so packed with sugar that I couldn't believe it. What do you use?
