I found a partial answer.. see number 10.

I've been eating a mixture of raw nuts and stopped eating them about 2 wks ago. I'm feeling better but am not totally sure why. ( I THINK I know..but..)

Are there any specific nuts that cause inflammation?

Found this:

Peanuts can, as well as any nut that is rancid, any nut on which mold is growing, or any nut to which one is allergic.

Also, I know cashews and maybe pistachios contain a toxin that is poisonous unless the nut is boiled first...

Oh for sure. Peanuts make me hurt!

I'm referring to brazil nuts, cashews, pecans and walnuts.

I was looking at the inflammation factor. I may want to leave out the pecans.

GREAT site! Thanks! [Smile]

Anything can cause inflammation if you are allegic to it. Like the last one said fill in the blank. I stay away from all but almonds. Pecans, walnuts make my throat itch, so those are easy to stay away from.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

[Smile] I'm allergic to almonds. I used to eat them all the time!

Nut have huge amounts of arginine. Most pathogens thrive on arginine including the fry protozoan. Sounds to me as if you are whipping your bugs into a feeding frenzy.

I quit nuts because I thought I might have protomyxzoa (testing for it). I felt good once I went off of them. My hot flashes went WAY down.

Emla posted a link here that explained it quite well. Apparently, they can cause estrogen dominance (I used to eat a lot of them). I miss the nuts (only have one or two now), but I sure don't miss those hot flashes.

Many people consider nuts to be pro-inflammatory because many nuts contain a high percentage of the polyunsaturated fats, especially the Omega 6 polyunsaturated fats. And many people believe that the overconsumption of the Omega 6 fatty acids can contribute to inflammation.

Why do polyunsaturated fatty acids cause inflammation?

Tutu, allergic to almonds? Please tell me what you experienced. I've been on almonds for about 18 mths for constipation and they've been great but.....

I'm having some issues in other areas of GI track with pain/achiness in left side.

yes, most of my family (nuts) cause inflammation and other assorted ills.

I totally agree with Cleo...

Nuts contain high amounts or arginine and they activate viruses and feed the Fry protozoa.

Lymetoo, have you started Flex Now yet? I have had a huge drop in inflammation after being on it for a month - could that have contributed to you feeling better?

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

That's true, Dogsandcats!! [lol]

map... itching!

bailey.. no .. hubby is off work one more month .. I'll see how Sept $$$ looks though.

That's very encouraging about the FlexNow! I'm taking Cymbalta and my feet are finally getting better. Today is the best day I've had in 9 months regarding my feet. Hope it keeps up!

I also have new orthotics they had to work on twice and now I think I can wear them. I'm going VERY slowly with them.

Thanks for all the info on the nuts. I will just eat a few now and then. It was one of the GF snacks I could have. Now I have nothing. [Wink] ( just feels like NOTHING )

About the FlexNow, my blood pressure dropped 30 points!!! I was recently put on BP meds from my LLMD, and now I had to get off of the meds because my BP dropped too low. YEAH!

The stuff really worked for me and some others that I know....

Oh no.

My BP is too low already.

I wish I had seen your reply earlier .. like before I bought the stuff! [bonk]

I'll try one pill a day at first.

Lymetoo, Flex Now worked for me with BP, but not for others that tried it. Most likely my high BP, was due to inflammation. For others, it worked for back or knee pain. It lowers inflammation and shuts down the cytokine storm. I would take the recommended dose of 3 soft gels daily.

my natropath told me to stay away from nuts right now because of mold.

Pistachios are terribly moldy. ew.

Posted by 'Kete-tracker (Member # 17189) on :

Yes.
The proteins in nuts are of all shapes & sizes, and some people (the # is increasing) are allergic to some of these protein chains.
(An allergic reaction IS essentially an inflammatory response.)

For some folks it's peanuts, for others- almonds. Some may just react to Brazil nuts... or pistachios. And the unfortunate few are allergic to a good majority of the nuts out there.
(I found out the hard way that Brazil nuts "kill" me. Was munching on a nut mix at Grandma's 1 day... OMG Nausea galore. I was 12.)

This is why you need to identify what You are allergic to & check the LABELS on all processed ("manufactured") foods.
They now often indicate not only whether that foodstuff contains certain nuts (or eggs or dairy), but also if the Plant that makes the product even processes those nuts in it's facility!

I buy only the raw nuts (NOW brand) from the health food store. My friend told me soak them. (?) removes some acid, I think.

Seems like roasting them would remove molds??

Cashews, peanuts, and pistachios are known for being moldy.

I LOVE Brazil nuts!!

"girl".. you can't give me too much info! [Smile]

The info on nuts stimulating latent viruses is a bit scary!!

Posted by girl (Member # 18022) on :

oh my! Didn't read that one. On the Body Ecology Diet she does promote eating nuts, but only certain ones, and she says to soak or sprout them. She says soaking removes an enzyme inhibitor that makes them difficult to digest, so soaking them will make them more digestible. To soak: Cover nuts or seeds with purified water in a glass or stainless-steel container overnight or for 12 hours. Drain and refrigerate.

(I've heard roasting them kills the omegas.)

You may be allergic. I am randomly allergic to some nuts and not others. Allergic to pecans, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and mustard seed. But not allergic to walnuts?

I did allergy testing to see which nuts I could have and which I couldn't. It was helpful because I had no idea. I was mildly reacting and had no idea what was causing the problem specifically.

Also, Candida can cause allergy to foods and then once the gut is healed, I think the allergy can go away. On a side note, just read that 90% of our neurotransmitters are made in the gut! Probiotics and yogurt just don't cut it. BRING ON THE FERMENTED VEGGIES!!! [Wink]

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Soaking nuts sounds like it would make them soggy!!? My friend also told me to soak them. Yuck.

Thanks for the info, Six and girl!!

I'm hoping for fermented vegetables soon. I don't have a food processor.

Look up the blood type diet and find out which nuts are inflammatory for your blood type. It has worked wonders for myself and my husband.

I found out today that Brazil nuts should not be soaked.

Toxins cause inflammation. I think we can all agree on that. When I was living in the house with very high mold, I was 195 lbs. I didn't eat bad. I just kept gaining weight and couldn't figure out why. Of course, I was tired, had trouble exercising for extended periods of time, had painful joints... but I was fat!

I got out of that house and went on the diet from the book "Clean" by Alejandro Junger and I lost 40lbs. I was stuck at 155 lbs for about a year.

Weight really isn't a huge issue for me... it's the spare tire around my middle.

I started a cleanse and after 15 days, I lost 6 lbs and 6 inches off my waist. Just saying, fat = toxins. Lose the toxins, the fat goes with it!!! [Big Grin]

And our bodies tend to store fat to protect our vital organs from the toxins. That is why we toxic people tend to gain weight around the middle.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

That would be bad for me, momlyme. I am underweight. Guess I'll have to keep my toxins! [Wink]

When I DO gain, it IS around the middle first!
