Does anyone know what ATP is? I have low ATP and my doctor wants me to get it retested as she's concerned about this.

I looked it up, googled it, searched on this website and all I get is very complex medical jargon. I was wondering if anyone could translate and let me know how it might be related to Lyme?

Adenosine Triphosphate...It is basically an energy source for all living things.

It's a molecule present in our cells that stores the energy we need for basically everything we do.

Every physiological action in your body requires energy for it to be performed and it obtains that energy from ATP molecule.

Think of ATP as a battery...a rechargeable one. IT charges your body by giving you energy. When your rechargeable battery goes dead, you need to give it some more juice so that you can use it for energy again.

The same holds true with the ATP molecule. It can be recharged with energy for you to use over and over again.

You would recharge by eating. Food is the fuel for your body and your body will convert the food you eat into useable energy by converting glucose into ATP.

Ooops...gotta go. Baby needs me. I'll be back on later [Smile]

Thanks for the answer! I can understand it! [Smile]

But it seems like I read something that there is a dysfunction in converting glucose into ATP when one has low ATP. My rechargeable battery is just not holding a charge! At any rate, eating doesn't seem to do the trick for me. Perhaps resting.

Wonder what the consequences of low ATP are? It seems my doctor is concerned enough to order another blood test before I see her again.

I wonder if Lyme is the cause?

The body pretty much needs ATP to perform any biological functions. It is the energy that allows cells to metabolize, fight, reproduce and so on.

I have heard all Lyme patients have this dysfunction, that is why they recommend ATP products. Low ATP just makes it harder for the body to recover and fight.

Lyme unfortunately screws with every process causing a cascade of issues within the body.
