Last year I had a positive Lymes antibody test, however none of the bands were reactive so my neurologist dismissed it. I have been gradually getting worse with my symptoms. Visual snow, anxiety, depersonalization, unable to drive because the road now looks like it's slanting downward and I feel like I am on a roller coaster. I keep getting these moments where I feel like I crazy. Crazy thoughts, crazy feelings. This all started in 2006 after getting so sick. The dr's thought I had strep, but both tests were negative. I was treated with antibiotics and after I stopped all of this mess started. Anxiety out the butt, dizziness. I have also had a thyroid disorder since I was 19, I am now 30. I was wondering, is it possible that my high thyroid antibodies could cause a positive lyme test? Or does the test only pick up lyme antibodies? My neuro really wasn't interested in looking into this and in fact I no longer see him. I started seeing him after I got the visual snow and migraines which were daily. I am now on medicine for that and it has given me back a portion of my life.
Thank you all and God bless! Candi

Well, I only know of a VERY FEW (handful) neuros who know anything at all about Lyme.
What test did you have?? Not sure how you got a positive with no bands??
You need to find a Lyme Literate MD and get checked for possible coinfections as well. You could have bartonella and/or babesiosis. Those need to be checked.
I'm moving this to Medical where you will get more info and help.

Probably a positive ELISA with negative Western Blot...
But the ELISA being positive means Lyme...hard to get a false positive on this.
No, the Thyroid antibodies are not cross-reactive with Lyme antibodies.

That's what I thought. Maybe the ELISA... and YES .. those mean a LOT!! Hard to get a positive on those sometimes!

Thank you all for your reply. I was reading online that the Elisa was unreliable because of the false positives it gave.
But I have read everywhere else that usually any positive, even without reactive bands means infection.
Some days I just tell my husband I don't feel like I am going to make it... he thinks I am joking, but I am so serious.

Very untrue. If you've been reading the CDC site or the ALDF then that is what you might hear. (about false positives) There is a huge controversy surrounding Lyme disease.
PS.. Get a Western Blot thru Igenex Lab. They test for ALL POSSIBLE bands.

Thank you so much. I guess that was one thing I didn't understand. The lab I used must have tested the Elisa, once that was positive, they did the WB, but did test all of the bands. That makes more sense to me!
Thank you so much for the link and explaining that to me!
