My 16 year old daughter, who is not diagnosed with Lyme, has had shortness of breath for a while. I always thought it was babesia but she did not want to treat. My LLMD says that she doesn't recommend treating reluctant teens with mild symptoms, so I have not pushed the issue.
Her shortness of breath looks just like my "air hunger" that I think is babesia. About a month ago, she felt bad enough that she was willing to treat it.
Before going to the LLMD, I took her to the PCP. He tested her lung function and she came up low. He put her on an inhaler, and retested her a week later. His test shows improvement, but I still see her trying to get a breath.
The PCP added Singulair to the inhaler. She still didn't seem better to me. I took her to an allergist then who switched her inhaler. It has been another week and she still doesn't seem better. The allergist also tested her lung function and she did show improvement after a breathing treatment he did, which would indicate that the inhaler would help.
She hasn't improved much though with all of this. She also has a sore throat and a cough.
If it was babesia, would her testing show reduced lung function? If it is asthma, shouldn't she be better now that she has an inhaler?
My air hunger is acting up now. Could I have asthma, too? No one has ever tested my lung function.

I've been wondering the same thing. My breathing has been strange for a few months now. I also wonder about if it could be a different infection or staph or something? Dr. just tells me it's prob babs.

I had SEVERE rush me to the hospital asthma air hunger for years. I didn't get any relief until I treated with antiparasitic herbs and salt/c. I believe now that I was infected with lung worms. Google lung worms and check out the Humaworm symptom list.
P. S. My asthma is completely gone and has been for 5 yrs.

I have asthma, which I have had for many yrs. I feel it is in no way connected to my lyme as my mother had it, as did my grandmother. It can be a struggle to find the right inhaler as well as finding your triggers.
I am on advair, yes it is a steroid inhaler, but my LLNP told me to definitely continue using it as it is more important to have your asthma under control, otherwise if it got out of control you could end up on oral steroids.
I think she could possibly just have asthma that has nothing to do with lyme. Sometimes we can be guilty of assuming all our issues are lyme related.

I had a complete cardio workup recently due to my awful shortness of breath. Heart was fine. But I still had cough, sore throat and trouble breathing.
saw my LLMD. He said this was often seen in lyme patients. I think it has something to do with sinuses. He smiled when I told him I had had two sinus surgeries and that the surgeon did think it was autoimmune trouble not fixed by surgery.
He put me on Biaxin for sinus, Singular and Albuteral inhaler to use when necessary. But he said it would take time for the abx to work.
my cough is better already, my nose is clearer and my O2 numbers are coming up. I still have to stop to rest if breathing gets too bad.

if breathing is a problem you should be sure mold is not an issue. if you smell even slight mildew that is enough to give someone a reaction. only 30% of population reacts-so the whole family doesnt have to be sick. asthma is the first sx from mold exposure
