So my doc's office emailed me and said they called in a prescription for mepron for me, this was after convincing my doc to do so, but did not prescibe zithromax or biaxin with it?

So I emailed them back, probably take days to hear back, when talking to the office originally, I said I wanted both mepron and zithromax.

I want to get this started already, I've been suffering for so long, I can't stand it anymore.

Should I start the mepron by itself, will it do any good w/o the other?

I'm currently on
Mino,augmentin,flagyl,flucanozole. iv rocephin.

Im sure other's on here are much more knowledgable than me to answer this. But my thoughts are i would never start two of anything at the same time. If you have a reaction you need to know where it's coming from.

Also in my experience when you first start a drug, the initial herxes are ususally the most powerful, then they may lessen over time. I wouldnt want to herx from two things at once, it might be too much for your body to handle.

I was on zith and mepron at the same time, but i had been on zith for a while before starting the mepron. Im not sure which is better to start first.

Depending on how soon you'll get the Zith, you could start the Mepron earlier, as it takes 2 weeks to fully absorb into your system. Mepron does work on its own. The Zith will help. If your Babesia is bad, expect a big herx after 1-2 weeks. It can be pretty rough.

Not everyone who has babesia takes mepron AND zith. I don't take zith.

I do use IV clindamycin. I think that the cocktail you are on will depend on a lot of factors. And Jennifer is right, one med at a time in case you get some kind of reaction.

I have changed meds a few times already, sometimes because the desired effect didn't happen (getting better) or sometimes there was too many gastro intestinal problems.

ok thanks everyone- I never tested positive for babesia but after months of people suggesting I do from classic symptoms, i decided to push for the treatment.

I am very scared to start the mepron, I am extremely ill, but am hoping it's because the babesia needs to be treated and that's why my symtpms are so bad (i've been on aggressive lyme tx for a year w/no success only worse)

Is it correct that you take the mepron with a fatty food? can anyone suggest some foods I take it with? like maybe w/ice cream? it's high in fat.

Also any tips on how to know if I'm having side affects from the mepron or herxing?

You're correct.... Mepron should be taken with fatty food, 10-12 hours apart. I also thought you had to take it with zith so it would work long term.

I eat eggs with veggies and cheese almost every morning. At night I eat low sugar ice cream or nuts. I take it with dinner if I eat breakfast really early, but usually that's not the case.

I herxed bad for a couple of weeks. I had a lot of head symptoms I'd never had before. Brain-fog, dizziness, spaciness. Overall de-realization, depressed emotions. It was very unsettling.

Just plan ahead. I had a few meetings for work (I work part-time) and had to take care of my children, so I was thrown for a loop. My LLMD had me stop the Mepron for a few days and start back slowly. I was totally fine after that.

The first time I tried mepron I got very depressed and had to stop. I had horrible nightmares too.

I just started on it again and have had a few headaches but not much depression. My lungs are affected now so my breathing has gotten easier on the mepron. Funny how the same drug can have a different effect each time.

I've been on many rounds of Mepron and Zith or Mepron and Biaxin, but the first time my doctor put me on the Mepron, he did NOT prescribe one of the others at the same time.

I think it could be much like what others are saying in that they don't like to have you start two new medications at the same time, since if there is a problem, they have to guess which one is causing it.

I don't recall how long I was on the Mepron before the Zith was added but I don't think it was too long. I hope this helps.

Mepron is prescribed with another abx to prevent Babesia resistance to Mepron. It doesn't really matter that much which abx, just that you are on something along with the Mepron.

What does that mean exactly-babesia resistance to Mepron? How does an abx help it from becoming resistant?

I see some do 3 weeks on, 1 off to prevent resistance?
