Hi everyone.

I am now 4 months off abx. I am still not 100% but better than when I was on abx.

I am still not convince that I am all clear. All the typical lyme and co symptoms are gone but I still have a few things lingering...

1. The esophagus issues are still there. Spasm and twitches that cause pain and sometimes heart skips. Heart was checked out by a Cardio and everything came out ok.

2. I get minor pain in my body some days. Very mild.

3. Mild headaches here and there. Very mild for the most part.

I know all these can be lyme related but since they are so mild thank God, really think that it is all food related or maybe yeast?

Here is why. The esophagus / heart skips are almost always are related. I started a paleo type diet and the skips where gone for a months. Got relaxed on the diet and they came back.

I notice that some foods are almost a guarantee. For instance one day I had a milkshake from McD (I know I know) and had a skip. I thought I was curious so I few days later I did it away and there it was.

Last week I was loading up on carbs for a long distance bike ride I was doing. I have been pretty low carb before this and sure enough this week the skips or spasms are a bit more frequent.

I never had food allergies. Well peaches and apple do give me a reaction but only if I eat the skin.

Anyway...is it common to develop food allergies after treatment?

I am getting a text done from metametrix to check for allergies. Anyone hear of these guys b4?

Metametrix is great. Your issues definitely sound GI related. Maybe SIBO, yeast, leaky gut, indigestion, food allergies, hiatal hernia, relux...

BTW, yes very common for GI issues to linger after treatment. Which test/tests are you getting done through Metametrix?

Metametrix is highly regarded by functional medical docs. I'm with you (not all clear)-the esophagus issue (babs?) and headaches.

I also don't know about diet. There are some people like TF who went through hell and back, but can now eat whatever she wants. I think she may be an exception though, but don't know for sure. People who are better or cured rarely come back and discuss their diets.

I have never in my life had a reaction to food (allergies). But when my doc ran the tests, out they came, so I have to avoid them for the time being.

I do remember Doc Burrascano in his DVD: Putting Lyme Behind you, saying he can drink wine, and eat normally now that he's cured. So maybe if you still have to eat the way you did with lyme and company you still have something? I don't really know for sure. I don't mean to be a debbie downer, I'm just speculating here.

I'm really happy for you though that you are close to 100%. That's encouraging news. :)

Allergies are common if you have parasites. Really would consider taking some herbal antiparasitics.

Parasites can hibernate in the small intestine, ao it would make sense that you become symptomatic when you eat. Really would consider this so you don't get worse.

You might want to get checked for eosinophilic esophagitis, a diagnosis that seems popular these days, and has merit.

I also get heart skips from esophagus issues and found that Gas-X helps release the air that seems to be pressuring my heart. But that's me. I took me a few years to discover this. Do you feel better if you burp?

My family's experience has been that, yes, we feel better off antibiotics, but no, not all symptoms are gone. We consider this a chronic illness at this point that is not going to be cured, so we enjoy life and function as best we can, gratefully.

Well I had an upper GI done...I was pretty knocked out so I can recall much of what the doctor said.

I know he needed to enlarger a bit and saw some irritation. I thinking this could be the cause of it heart skips..

Looks like eosinophilic esophagitis it is. Not sure what his means but need to look more into it

You can learn more about Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE) at http://www.apfed.org/

My DH has Eos. Gastroenteritis (EG) + Eos. Esophagitis (EE).

The diagnosis is made after excluding parasites, connective tissue disorders, etc., and if eosinophil levels on endoscopic biopsy come back elevated.

Parasites such as Babesia (or the Fry labs protozoa) may be causal of eosinophilic inflammation in the gut, so that is something valid to look into.

And certain foods can bring on flare-ups of EE.

There is no other test other than biopsy, currently that can diagnose the condition. Appearance on endoscopy is not sufficient for diagnosis. GI docs need to biopsy when they scope...unfortunately, most don't the first time around, requiring the patient to endure multiple scopes...

This is the most helpful website I found for food allergy info:

http://www.food-allergy.org/

I thought I had food allergies, but I had gut dysbiosis (very similar symptoms). A CDSA test sorted it out.

http://www.food-allergy.org/root3.html

I started taking DGL 20 minutes before eating. That helped me with esophagus spasms.

Here's the personal stories page. I relate to it a lot. I had intestinal problems for 2 years after stopping antibiotics awhile back. A CDSA test sorted it out.

http://www.food-allergy.org/story.html

Also, I know two people with wheat and shrimp allergies and there's not much they can do except avoid. They do great without those foods.

Also, get tested for h pylori in multiple ways. The breath test and blood test are the best. It's easy to get a false negative.
