I went into the ER two nights ago.

Here is the context-

Addison's DX in 2005-
Hypogonadism and CFS in 2011
Lyme dx almost 2 months ago
Started Ceftin, Cumanda, Banderol, Diflucan
Started Amantadine and 3 weeks ago
Start Biaxin 1.5 weeks ago

Was tolerating Ceftin OK

2nd day of Biaxin produced a headache/twitchy neuro herx

5-2 days ago:
My symptoms that were progressively worsening and coming in waves:

tremors/convulsions
severe anxiety
weakness
flank pain/back pain

other symptoms:
loss of appetite/ odor hypersensitivity
insomnia
weak bowels/slow stomach
vivid, disturbing dreams
lowered urine output
cold extremities

I stopped all abx and tinctures 4 days ago (due to the herx). Symptoms continued to flare in waves which prompted the ER visit.

Most of the symptoms cleared just after receiving a saline solution and giving a urine sample.

Tests for CBC, renal panel, metabolic panel were fine. Blood pressure and heart rate normal. Body temp 96.4. TSH was HIGH at 6.2 (range: 0.3-5.0)

Yesterday I felt relief but today I am not doing well. I feel like my digestion is very slow and my extremities are very cold (even wrapped up in blankets).
Any suggestions? I have had high RT3 in the past, wondering if some of this is HypoT.

Sounds like a combo. Did you call your LLMD right away, I hope?? If not, call him/her ASAP. Tell them you had to go to the ER and need to hear back from them right away.

When you do things to kill off the pathogens, you need to do lots of detox to get rid of the neurotoxins produced. There are lots of ways to do this. Your doc should be able to help, but if not: coffee enemas help enormously and quickly. Do a search here for instructions. It's not as weird as it sounds.

Drinking water with lemon squeezed into it helps a lot, and sometimes adding some olive oil. There are lots of detox methods, do a search for that, too.

Sounds like toxicity, plus hypothyroid, plus drug reaction. (I am not diagnosing!). All need to be addressed. Plus any other possible factors, esp endocrine.

It sounds like your thyroid is barely working. No wonder you feel so bad.

Most integrative docs think the TSH is optimized at around 1.0 or thereabouts.

Are you taking any Armour or bio-identical T3? Synthroid or levothyroxine might not be enough b/c those only have T4.

If your body is not converting T4 to the usable form of T3, which happens to many with lyme and co's, you need to supplement with T3 too.

Most mainstream docs will just give the T4 for any hypothyroid issues.

Also, did you check the thyroid anti-bodies to make sure you don't have Hashimoto's?

Just some things to consider. Hope you're on tbe mend soon.

How quickly would T3 start working?

I was given a given a prescription of it but never took it. I told my doc I wanted to try to treat the infections first to see if it would clear up the T4/T3/RT3 conversion issue.

Maybe it's time to start taking it.

Sounds herxy to me.

Take that thyroid med. Maybe you won't have to if you clear the infections, but for now, it would help with your symptoms.

I, too, would start the thyroid med ASAP. I didn't herx from thyroid meds.

I have read where some folks notice a difference on T3 right away. For me, the T3 worked slowly.

I did not really notice a profound difference b/c I've got infections too. But I sure can tell when I don't take it.

My body temp drops even lower, and I have an even greater level of fatigue.

For the cold extremities I am also suspecting hypercoagulation. How does this play into hypothyroidsim?

I take systemic enzymes for the hypercoagulation. It is quite common to have that problem with lyme.

As for cold extremities, I get that too and I *think it may be from protomyxzoa. Not sure about that though.

I also suggest starting the thyroid med. Maybe you can get yourself off of it later when your infections are under control but sounds like you really need it now.

Also...what are you doing detox? I actually had a very hard time tolerating cumanda. Made me herx like crazy so I had to back off and really up my detox. The tremors, twitching, GI issues sound like bartonella symptoms exacerbated by the cumanda. That is pretty much what happened to me to.

Take detox baths, drink plenty of water preferably with lemon it and any other things you do for detox.

Feel better soon!

"I take systemic enzymes for the hypercoagulation."

nattokinase, serropeptase? My GF was telling me about these.

For detox I have been doing green tea (decaf), lemon, burbur, vit C (up to 10grams), glutathione support (NAC, CoQ10, fish oil), high dose magnesium (close to 3grams)

Just did my first epsom/hydrogen peroxide bath.
I will be doing these often, that's for sure!
My back feels a lot better.

I am beginning to think that some of the waves of anxiety could be coming from Hashimoto's. Apparently as Hashimoto's advances, it can cause the thyroid to oscillate between hypo and hyper states. I am going to get checked for antibodies asap.

You say you are taking: " . . . high dose magnesium (close to 3grams)" (end quote)

That may be too much. Approximately 2,000 (2 grams) is about the highest oral that your body can manage - and that MUST be in DIVIDED DOSES, 3 - 4 x a day, never all at once or kidney damage can occur.

Also, the reason for divided doses is that the body (kidneys especially) just can't process and hold much at a time and it just gets washed away.

I have it split into 3 doses. 2 of these w/ every meal: http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Magnesium-Malate-1-250-mg-360-Tablets/19154

I have yet to experience any diarrhea from it.

Also, renal panel came back fine at the ER, so no apparent kidney issues there.

I was taking nattokinase and serrapeptase but have switched to serrapeptase and boluoke per LLMD
