Is it ok to get a flu shot while being treated?

You can do a "search" and pull up old posts about the flu shot. Lot of different info and experiences... Unfortunately like most lyme issues, there is no easy answer.

Good luck!

My former LLMD told me no immunizations, ever. My current LLMD said it's ok to get a flu shot.

So, I was very confused. I knew better than to get one that had preservatives, however, when my son was at the Dr for a sick visit last week, I had his PCP immunize all of us.

I just didn't want to get the flu and I knew I wouldn't feel up to going around town looking for preservative free.

I don't think I did anymore damage than has already been done. However, some people find that it is the straw that broke the camels back.

Like FamilyFive said, there is no easy answer. You have to weigh the pros and cons for yourself.

I wouldn't get the flu shot if I was 100% well, let alone having lyme.

I spoke to my LLMD last week about getting the flu shot. She said, it is okay to get the shot since it contains an inactivated (dead) virus. But, do NOT get the nasal spray b/c it contains a live vaccine.
She said that the flu would be harder on your body than getting a vaccine.

Read some of this feedback before getting ANY vaccines... especially the info from Dr Mercola.

I was pretty much over all of my lyme symptoms with no treament after 6 months. Then I got a flu shot (the only one of my life) Then several days later I started falling down with severe myoclonus and have not been totally well since. I believe the flu shot hurt an already overworked immune system.

Just say "NO" to the flu shot.

I have never had one. I was told "no" when Lyme was at it highest with me.

I am usually the medical one in a million that reacts to something....

Follow your doc and your instincts.

See http://www.naturalnews.com/027239_vaccine_flu_vaccines.html for why flu vaccines are worthless.

I reacted to a tetanus shot, and I know I'll never have another vaccination.

It depends on where you're at in treatment. It's not a good idea to get a flu shot (or any vaccine for that matter) if you are not taking antibiotics for the lyme. If you are on antibiotics AND you are at a fairly symptom-free point in your treatment then a flu shot might be okay (ask your doctor). However, if you are very symptomatic, a flu shot might cause your lyme to flare very badly.

Well....I work in the ER and usually don't get the flu shot. I also never get sick with the flu either though. Unfortunately, I'm being mandated to have one now. [Frown]

We have to get the shot and I am very unhappy about this. Anyway...I will post if I have any sort of reaction.

I asked my LLMD and he said no because although I'm doing better, my Lyme is still active and I'm still in treatment.

The flu shots are not that effective anyways. My daughter got a flu shot last year and she got the flu anyways. SOMEHOW, I didn't get it which is miraculous because I'm her primary caretaker and I was pretty unwell with Lyme & co. at the time.

But the flu would be pretty awful for those of us already sick with Lyme & Co., so if you think you might have the flu call your LLMD right away to get tamiflu!
