Hello,

I can't remember if I've asked this question in this forum before....so I apologize if I'm asking a second time.

I had a candida overgrowth that I began treating late May 2012. I took 2 months of Fluconazole.

I've been on the candida diet since mid-May 2012.

Based on some mild "leftover" symptoms, I believe it may be possible that I have a bit of an overgrowth remaining. My LLMD prescribed an additional month of Fluconazole to ensure that we knock it out.

My question is this:

Anyone who has been on this diet knows how restrictive and tough it is. Once things are under control, can you ever again enjoy a non-candida diet meal?

For example, if I were to eventually treat myself to 1 (and only 1) cheat meal, could that actually trigger a full-blown overgrowth?

Would it just trigger a few symptoms that would disappear as I treat with the Floconazole?

I guess I just want to know if one meal (for my sanity) could trigger an out of control overgrowth versus a slight elevation that the anti-fungal will eliminate.

I understand how important diet is when dealing with candida. I've been taking this so seriously since May. I've even lost the 50 pounds I'd gained from previously being sick and inactive.

However, I so badly want to enjoy just one meal. One anything goes meal in over 5 months seems fair and deserved to me. [Smile]

I should mention that I'm not talking about McDonald's or anything too terrible. Maybe 2 slices of pizza? Maybe a veggie burger? A couple of french fries?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

One meal will not undo it all. But with me, when I cheat... I continue to want to cheat MORE! It's the sweets that make me crater!

So if you get away with eating pizza one night, don't think you can just KEEP doing it.

Two slices of pizza should not hurt you as long as it's not very often.

STAY ON PROBIOTICS FOREVER!

You really can make anything on a cadida diet-- you just have to use different ingredients.

It sounds like you maybe are feeling deprived. Do some google searches on SCD recipes or Paleo recipes. You can make pizza with almond flour, coconut flour, cauliflower-- there are several Yeast friendly recipes.

Personally I would feel like i was just undoing all of my hard work if i cheated. Get creative and you can really have it both ways!

I am so happy to hear that one fun meal won't undo all of my hard work and treatment!!!

I agree that the tough part is stopping after one cheat. It's so easy to say...well, just one more. If I allow myself one cheat, it will be only one.

WhitneyS: Thank you for these suggestions. I would love to make a pizza using appropriate ingredients! (I'm guessing cheese is not one of them.)

I am feeling a bit deprived. I like the foods I've been eating, but am frustrated with the repetition.

I will do some research and see what I can find.

Thank you both!
