I just started plaquenil two days ago, im feeling popping under my skin and my ears hurt. Im not even sure what plaquenil hits? I just looked up some about it on search and see it's a cyst buster, but usually taken with other meds.

I was ordered bicillin but i dont know when i can start it since Im broke and it's so costly in injection form. Am I wasting my time taking plaquenil alone?

Hi,

I believe that bicillin is used for the spirochete form of Lyme. Plaquenil mildly hits babesia, possibly cystic lyme and increases the effectiveness of macrolides.

I don't think you are wasting time taking Plaquenil, but if you are able to, maybe add a macrolide and something for the spirochete like doxy, mino, ceftin etc. Those might be more affordable than bicillin.

I've been on all of those..had to go off all at some point due to side effects. I was on each for quite a while though. Im still trying to find someone to break up the rx for bicillin.

I could manage it weekly...but so far no one will break up the box. Even if I had insurance i doubt they would cover it since I never tested CDC positive for lyme, and my coinfection tests came out neg. Havent had the funds to re-test.

What do you mean by break up the box? I notice when I get mine there are a few slots empty as the rx is written for twice a week only. They must be able to give you how ever many you need.

they told me it comes in a box of x amount and they wouldnt break it up to let me purchase two doses a week instead of paying over $500 a month...i just dont have that kind of cash to lay out right now.

That is strange. I just looked at my box and it usually comes 10 to a box, but my rx is written for 8 so they have to break a box to give it to me. I fill mine at CVS.

I would stay away from Plaquenil unless you have signs of an autoimmune disease or are using it in combination with a macrolide. It could effect your immune system negatively (i.e. suppress it).

Bicillin on the other hand was a very effective medication for me. It really got me over the hump with my Lyme therapy.

My insurance doesn't cover the Bicillin so my Dr directed me to go to www.calvetsupply.com and order Twin-Pen Penicillin G. I was told it is the same from my LLMD and its only $12 for 2 months

Jennifer: go to another pharmacy. They can take out how many ever you need, especially since you are paying cash.

I was prescribed, ex. 12, they put 2 extra in the box of 10 to fill my Rx.

When I recently picked up my son's bicillin shots at the hospital pharmacy, the pharmacist said she has not seen bicillin prescribed in over 10 years. She said it is an old school antibiotic. I didn't feel like educating her at the time and don't want to risk the insurance coverage by talking about Lyme with her.
