My husband uses Relora for anxiety. He was running low on Relora and used Theanine Serene instead.

The Theanine Serene has GABA in it. Too much GABA increases his anxiety - he says he feels like a basket case tonight.

Is there anything he can take or do to reverse the effects of too much GABA?

(We did pick up another bottle of Relora.)

When I overdosed on GABA, I didn't have anxiety, but I did have a strange light-headed sensation. It disappeared within a day or two. I didn't have to do anything special, other than stopping the GABA supplement I was taking...

Funny, I thought gaba was supposed to decrease your anxiety. Hope he is feeling better by now.

The problem is not too much GABA but the GABA is being converted to glutamate.

In Buhner's book he uses resveratrol (Japanese knotweed source) to block the conversion of the B vitamins thru an alternate pathway to a neurotoxin. I would try the Japanese knotweed to balance your neurotransmitters.

Once hubby took the Japanese knotweed he could take 5HTP and p5p (activated B6 with no problem). Then he added SAMe and l-theanine. Later took very high doses of passionflower for sleep which also converts to GABA.

The Japanese knotweed should decrease quinolinic acid and help with overall brain inflammation which should help you tolerate GABA.

Also be sure not to take glutamine which also converts to glutamate in the presence of brain inflammation. And of course avoid things like MSG and artificial sweeteners.

If your husband does not remember his dreams that is a sign he is deficient in the B vitamins especially B6 -- but need to have Japanese knotweed on board to take them safely if the brain is inflamed.

Interesting that your hubby tolerates relora. Hubby tried it years ago and it caused night sweats. We later learned that the magnolia in it could work a little on babesia.

Hmm, I'm using Theanine Serene 4 per day without much effect. That's interesting that he is sensitive to GABA since, according to most research, oral GABA does not cross the blood-brain-barrier (BBB).

I never seem to get any effect from suuplemental GABA and am constantly looking for something I can take (instead of klonopin) to alleviate anxiety and panic.

Dave, He uses L Theanine, Relora, and sometimes St. Johns Wort on an as needed basis.

The Relora seems to help the most for the anxiety. He's been using it ever since he weaned off the Lorazepam 2 years ago.

He had tried a Holy Basil supplement also, but don't remember that it helped much....

Seibert, how do you tell if the brain is inflamed?

My husband is taking b complex and he can take 5htp with no problems. We avoid MSG & artificial sweetners, colors, etc. etc.

Currently he is not taking co q 10 or Phosphatidyl choline because we ran out. Need to get my order in. Could some of the increased anxiety be from the lack of Phos Choline?

He is getting omega 3's.

Babesia seems to be giving him more problems then the Lyme is. At least those are the symptoms that are the most annoying. Tipsy, fatigue, and anxiety.

Hey MannaMe:

Is the Relora only that he's using a different strength than the amount that's in Theanine Serene?

Dave, His Theanine Serene doesn't have Relora in it.

He uses a Theanine only supplement rather then the Theanine Serene. The Theanine Serene was one of the many things he had tried and the bottle was still in the cupboard. So he decided to use it since his Relora was all gone.

He is finally feeling a bit better - not quite so nutty. He said he was hanging on to the edges of sanity there for awhile.

He is back on Relora again. 250 mgs per tablet
