Happy Sunday everyone. I am very sensitive to meds and so my doctor started me off slowly 1 250 mg azithromax once a day. I started four weeks ago and by now I should have upgraded to twice a day but can't bring myself to it yet. I still need to add Rifampin.

My problem is I got my period on Monday of this week and usually by Friday its over. However, it stopped and then it starts with light flow and cramping again. Today Sunday it still light flow and cramping. So the period is stopping and starting with mild cramping. Is this a side effect of the antibiotic? Has anyone else experieced this? I am 47 years old and my periods were like clockwork every 28 days. When I got sick in February it dropped to every 26 days. And now this last period it like it doesn't stop. Anyone experience this? Is it maybe the antibiotic?

Thanks,

My periods started getting irregular when I hit 46- I blamed it on perimenopause.

JMO, but I think if excessive bleeding occurs for a few months or more,

you should see a gynecologist. I am in my mid- 40's, like you was/am like clockwork, but for a year had mid cycle stuff happening.

I blamed my age, Lyme, took a wait and see for too long, became anemic, which I am now trying to pull up,
not fun. Especially while trying to work on biofilms.

Anyway, I finally went to gynecologist, had ultra sound, and I had polyps (99.% of them are non- cancerous)
Had a procedure and got the problem fixed.

This issue is common in women in their 40's, I read.

So, if it keeps happening, get it checked out.

I just saw my D.O (who treats Lyme) this week. I've not started treatment yet. Still getting tests.

But, about the sensitiviy to meds. I have it really bad. I can't take most "usual" stuff.

He mentioned before treatment .. besides waiting for Lyme confirmation. . . that the sensitiviy to meds could indicate a liver function issue.

I would have your Dr make sure all your liver functions are working well before upping your abx.

I have liver issues in my family history, so..
my Dr is taking a careful approach to prepping my body in case I do need abx.

Well, it's only continued for an extra two days.
So far.

See how it goes this next week.

Look into Vitex.
Read the reviews at iHerb.com.

I know this is a bit late, but here's my experience.

I am 48, periods use to be every 28 days like clockwork, period lasting a week.

For two years now they've come sooner or later.

My last one on October 14 lasted almost a month. The blood was bright red and I had severe cramping, tugging, pulling pain for over a month prior.

I've suffered with severe pelvic pain for over 10 years and have IC so I just figured the pain was from that combined with Lyme, but the bleeding concerned me.

I went for an ultrasound and a golf ball sized cyst on my right ovary was found. The pain eventually ended and a repeat ultrasound was normal.

My dr. said they usually resolve on their own, but if it didn't surgery would need to take place and also the risk for ovarian cancer is increased.

I blame every pain I have on my Lyme which is not always the case.

I do hope you've seen a gyn for your problem.
