Have an upcoming dental procedure to seal a section of a tooth and the dentist wants to use laughing gas.
Is laughing gas ok to use?

It may be OK, but long years ago it was used on me and I hated it. I didn't like the way it made me feel. I felt like I was upside down or something!
I think it dissipates quickly, so if you don't like it, he can stop using it.

DD had it during a procedure. I was hesitant, but she really wanted it. She was relieved to have had it b/c she was anxious about the procedure. LLMD agreed it was OK. It was fine--no ill effects. Just make sure someone can drive you home afterwards.

I used it a few times before I knew I had lyme. It really helped with my dental anxiety. No ill effects for me either.
I think I read somewhere that if you have methylation issues, it can be dangerous.

Question for those of you who have used it: Do you know what's happening while the dental work is being done?
I have such pain and a burning/achy feeling in my jaw when I have to keep my mouth open at the dentist. I'd love to ask for laughing gas the next time I need work done, but am thinking it might be pointless if I'll know what's going on and feel the pain the whole time anyway. Does that make any sense?

I had a very bad experience with it some years ago and never let them use it again.
Apparently this is characteristic of a subset of patients. Can't remember now what the reason was. Nothing connected with lyme, as I didn't have it then.

I had it many years ago and felt alarm bells ringing in my head to stop it immediately. I can't explain it except I felt I was in serious danger. It was a very strong "knowing" that it was no good for me.
Fast forward, years later.... now I've learned it can be quite serious for those of us with methylation issues. It depletes B12 and that can put those with meth issues in the danger zone.
My advice would be to take a Xanax and call it a day.

Mamma Bear, you are definitely awake and know what is going on. You just feel more relaxed and sense of time is different. I had a lot of dental pain as well - and it helped me to get through some procedures that gave me a lot of anxiety.

Mamabear, You will also be given a shot of Novocaine as well to help with the pain.... If you start the N2O before getting the shot, it makes it more bearable! I HATE getting my teeth drilled, but it is fine as long as I can get N2O... it really helps with anxiety! Good luck!

If you know that you have a MTHFR 677T mutation you should not use laughing gas.
