My daughter was diagnosed in January 2010 after getting mono the prior year and never getting well. She started on orals at diagnosis and herxed her face off!
Fatigue, joint pain and stomach issues were her 3 biggest symptoms and continue to be. However, after 3 months on IV abx she is finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel and is feeling good enough to be in school, apply for colleges and is taking SAT test this Saturday.
It's a miracle. For the fist time since starting treatment I can see her making progress and becoming the person she used to be. It makes me so happy!
She struggled on orals. Her stomach issues got so bad that she couldn't eat and was losing weight like crazy. Finally we stopped the abx and decided to try the Dr K protocol. We worked on healing her gut, but she was stuck in bed again and after 8 months on that, seemed to be back to square one again!
Our LLND referred her for IV.
We interviewed several docs and chose one with a good reputation. Her MTHFR issues were addressed first, then treatment began at the end of August.
She still herxes. She has been fighting Babesia and Lyme, but should be moving to a new infection to attack at the first of the year. The herxes are managable now and don't last for days or weeks on end.
I share this story for many reasons, but mainly to give people hope. Secondly, everyone's journey is different, and my daughter needed IV due to a longstanding and un diagnosed infection.
I will give updates as she progresses but am excited today at the 3 month mark that she is going to beat this and actually have a life!

I'm sure as a HS senior is has been challenging to be sick for last few years.

What are a few of the things she took to address the MTHFR? I have not studied this at all as I don't want to get overwhelmed, but curious what the main things are that people take to address this.
