Hi everyone. I know I ask alot of questions .... here's one more. But first I want to say thank you. Thank you for the support of this board and to the people that take time to reach out. I don't know what I would do without the sharing of information on this board.
I frequently experience a stiff tongue and tight neck and throat. I find myself swallowing alot and sometimes it feels hard to swallow. Since I started taking the meds (Zith 250 mg for the past six weeks and Rif 150 mg for the past week) I feel it more.
Can anyone relate? If you relate, can you describe how it feels for you. I just need some reassurance because it can be a very uncomfortable and scary symptom. Which infection is this coming from lyme or bart?

I can relate. I experience tight neck, dry throat and sometimes i feel something in my throat.
I'm thirsty all the time and I also have chest pain.
I'm schedule to have an endoscopy on friday.
Talk to your doctor about your symptoms and take it from there. Hope you feel better soon!

gailth~ If you are thirsty all the time you should have your blood sugar checked. You could have diabetes.
prayerworks~ Yes, I've gotten a stiff tongue and a stiff neck. The stiff neck has happened when I've taken antibiotics and antivirals. It wears off after about a week. The stiff tongue (it was awkward really)lasted one day. This was after my dose to valtrex was increased.
It is scary and my doctor even wanted to make sure I didn't need to be in the ER. Do talk with your doctor....or go to the ER.

yeah...i have not heard that combo before-and being so close to your brain and other important things i really think that deserves an er visit.
at least once. if it turns into a pattern then you know. i get all the "womans heart attack sx" and dont go to er anymore after 3 total workups that dont show any problems except high lipids
your brain, eyes, throat...too risky. please go check it out.

My opinion is that since you frequently experience a stiff tongue, tight neck and throat, then it is normal for this symptom to increase with treatment.
All lyme symptoms increase when we start treating the lyme.
On page 9 of Burrascano Guidelines, it lists this as a lyme symptom:
"Neck creaks and cracks, stiffness, neck pain"
I had this an awful lot when I had untreated lyme disease.
My saliva also went down my windpipe a lot, causing me to have to cough very, very hard for about 30 minutes at a time. That is how lyme affected my throat area.
I believe that lyme affected the nerves in my throat that control the "flapper" that closes the windpipe when we eat and drink and opens it when we breathe.
I believe that the flapper wasn't closing properly, so if I flossed my teeth with my head tilted slightly back, my saliva would start to trickle into my lungs. It could actually happen any time.
You are describing odd sensations in the mouth and throat. This is not uncommon with lyme. The exact symptoms may differ, but it all comes down to the same thing. We are not having normal nerve function in our throats.

Lyme sx have affected my tongue from time to time, like numbness or difficulty in moving it - usually sx last a little while and then disappear.
One thing I check out for me re swallowing - the neck nerves can also be involved with that, and my neck has a lot of stiffness and tightness.
So a good chiropractic adjustment that unlocks subluxating vertebrae can often stop the nerve pressure anywhere in the neck region for me,
including swallowing difficulties, which I think can come from C4 subluxation, and we may have a lot of neck vertebrae out too that are contributing to sx.

Once this illness spread like wild fire in my body, my tongue went numb (along with face). My tongue has had some degree of numbness or weirdness since 2006, waxes/wanes like all of my symptoms.
As far as swallowing difficulty for me, only once or twice, short-lived, thankfully.
However, a good friend of mine, prior to her Lyme dx - had 2 surgeries for Achalasia (basically a rare muscle disease of the esophagus). Hmmm....Lyme disease, ya think? Of course, she attributes it to Lyme and the swallowing issues continue for her, waxing/waning, like all things Lyme it seems....TS

Prayer, I've had your symptoms before. For me, they were babesia related. Treating babs helped me get rid of most of them (still treating).

but tongue and face numness suggests bells doesnt it...shouldt that be aggressively txed...not just let go
i know if you tx fast you can make bells go away but if you dont sometimes it never goes away
