It treats both lyme and babesia.

I was on IV Clindamycin for seven days on, three weeks off, for over two years. As soon as I went off IV Clindy, I was battling old symptoms again. It was a great drug for me!

Why did you pulse it? Were you on it with a anything else?

I took it orally for five years for Lyme. Treated the symptoms very well and then it stopped working, and now I'm doing other remedies which don't work quite as well, but still help.

Clindamycin also treats certain species of mycoplasma very effectively.

Make sure you're taking a really good s. boulardi probiotic when taking clindamycin to help prevent c-diff.

From what I've been told, clindamycin is more likely to cause c-diff than other abx.

Wow Robin, 5 years of it? Holy Moly! And no c-diff? Wow.

And Mathias, had no idea it also treated myco. That's good to know.

True!! I got lucky, too, beaches. I had no clue about clindamycin causing c.diff (12 yrs ago) and I took clindamycin with quinine off and on for 2 yrs. No c.diff. I would NOT chance it now without taking s.boulardii.

PS .. I took clindy/Q for babesia.

I'm not sure you can take s boulardi with a picc

It gave me C Diff.

Oh wow Lymetoo. You also took the clindamycin for a very long time. Such a relief I bet that you never got c. diff. Is quinine still used to treat babesia? Haven't heard anything about that at all.

Beths, I don't see why you couldn't take the s. boulardi, picc or not?

Tickled, yeah, I got zapped with c. diff from clindamycin too. It's a great med if you can tolerate it.

No C diff from 5 years of clinda, but I got it from one round of erythromycin once for an ear infection. Go figure...

It "treats" good bacteria? Just kidding, but I was taking quite a lot of probiotics, including sacch boulardi as one of them, and still got c.diff. This was 1.5 years ago and I feel over just the last week or two my gut finally may be recovering to the point where I could take an abx again (not that it's on my list of things to do). I felt at the time it was helping with babs, but, wow, what a mess it also caused!

I know many people on www.roadback.org that use IV Clindamycin to treat mycoplasma infections and autoimmune disease. Rarely, if ever do they contract C-difficile.

I don't tolerate s. boulardi, but I do take VSL#3, and it has served me well.

Do you have to take something with clindy for lyme/babs?

Posted by MichaelTampa (Member # 24868) on :

I was taking it with factive (gemifloxacin, similar-ish to levaquin) and malarone. So, theoretically, clindamycin was for lyme, clindamycin/factive was for bart, and clindamycin/malarone was for babs.

This is all theoretical stuff where the llmd's try to look at symptoms and pretend everything is one of those 3. Lots of other stuff out there that wasn't being talked about much back then, such as FL1953 (protomyxzoa rheumatica), that has been treated some with malarone and, I believe, in some cases, clindamycin.

I would think you should at least take plaquinel or something.

Beaches, they tried to take quinine off the market. I think they just wanted to create a more expensive form since quinine is such an old drug. Not sure what the status is on that.

Quinine was "reformulated" a couple of years ago. It is still available as a prescription med but the cost is much higher than in the past -- still one of the cheaper meds though.

Technically it is not supposed to be prescribed for leg cramps anymore -- probably the most common reason for the prescription in the U.S.

And I would agree that for babs it should be combined with another med.

IV clindamycin with quinine and high dose malarone was probably one of the more effective combos hubby was on for babesia. But that combo was not strong enough for him.

Quinine is now called Qualaquin. It can be used in combination with Clindamycin for Basbesia and Lyme. I couldn't tolerate Quinine, it kicked my derriere - worst herx I ever had!

I used IV Clindamycin in combination with Mepron, Zith, Tindamax, Lariam and Minocycline.

Do you think, guys, clinda is doing something for bartonella too or not?

Posted by elainer97 (Member # 33917) on :

I'm taking Clindy and Qualaquin right now for babs and Borrelia - 10 days of those together then switch to plaquenil for 10 days then back to Clindy/Q and so on.

Been doing that for about 4 months. Within the last month I felt like I turned a corner and am making more progress. [Smile]

Doc is now adding doxy with the plaq begging wth my next round to hit the Borrelia more. Was supposed to have been on Biaxin wth plaq but cudn't take due to GI intolerance to erythromycin family drugs.

I love this combo- it's letting me have a little of my brain back and allowing me to walk more like a normal person [Smile] among other things.
