Does anyone else herx within 1/2 hour after taking antibiotic? This is happening to me with Rifampin. My symptoms get worse 1/2 hour after taking med and lasts for about four hours then it subsides and starts all over again at the next dose. This this sound right?

Hubby had this problem for years until he got his infection load down. Whatever med or herb he took as a killing agent he would have a reaction when it was at peak dose and then he would feel some better again based on the half life of the med. I did not always do the research on all of his meds before he started them, but once I looked them up the pattern just about always fit.
This was mostly back when he was treating with just one med for one infection at a time. What we eventually did was put him on multiple meds to treat the 3 big infections (lyme, babesia and bartonella)all at the same time. It took 8 months to ramp up on the 5 meds the doc wanted him on. But once he got to the therapeutic doses he finally started seeing real improvement for the first time in years.
And he got to the point where he could handle very high dose multiple drug combos without having such severe reactions.
Rifampin was one of the meds he had problems with. When he first started he couldn't even tolerate 50 mg every day. But he eventually ended up on 900 mg daily for 6 or maybe it was 9 months.
Rifampin supposedly treats lyme, babesia and bartonella all plus it is known to be hard on the liver so it is not surprising that you are having a hard time with that med.
I would probably lower the dose for now and ramp up slowly, but you should discuss that with your doctor.
