I started Bactrim this week and yesterday woke up covered in red dots. It was the only thing I have added or changed with my protocol.
I asked my mom and she said she cannot take sulfa drugs. The dots do not itch or anything?
My dr seems to not be sure? I stopped Bactrim yesterday.

Red dots on the skin may be Petechia.
You can google for images and definitions.

I think sulfa is cleared through the methylation detox pathway in the liver? If true, you could do a liver detox test, the detoxigenomic liver test through Genova Diagnostic Labs in NC, which shows your genetic ability to detox, and results can guide your doctor in treatment choices.

I too started Macrobid abx on Monday for UTI. It must be the season for UTI, there are so many posts about it.
Larae, on day 3 I broke out in full body rash of red dots. Not itching. Which is strange. Search finds this to be pretty common reaction to this family of abx.

My LLMD thinks I have sulphur toxicity and put me on Nutramedix Sparga drops. Not sure if that would help you or not - I haven't had a reaction like yours.

Larae - I would stop taking it right away. Many years ago I was on it for almost 2 weeks before I broke out in red spots all over. I ended up in the ER, then in quarantine for 5 days because it wiped my system out completely (WBC went down to dangerously low levels). That's when I learned I was allergic to sulfa drugs. BTW - it is a common drug allergy (I was told this by a pharmacist).
Just because you are allergic to sulfa drugs does not necessarily mean you are sensitive to all sulfur/sulfites/sulfates, but it is a possibility. It turns out that I am sensitive to all of the above. You may want to check into this further. Even just a food elimination diet could give you clues.
Best to you.

Tammy, I know nothing about any of this. Do you happen to have any resources you know of or what foods are the ones that contain high levels of sulfur/sulfites/sulfates?
I can search myself, but was wondering if you knew any info offhand.
Hopefully you are just having a reaction to the sulfa drug and are not sensitive to sulfur in general.
Good luck.

Thanks, Tammy. I eat a lot of those foods and always have and don't think I have food allergies? Who knows with all of this crap!

The list on the above website for low thiol (sulfur) foods includes foods that are high in sulfites. So be careful if you have sulfite sensitivity...
PM me with your email address if you want the list of foods high in sulfites.
