Hello, I am trying to learn about this genetic defect and how it relates to Lyme, I get that it can mess with your detoxing, but I cannot get the rest like how folic acid comes into play, I have been to mthfr.net and I just can't get it right now, too much info for this lymie brain. I just need someone to explain it to me in layman's terms , pleas. Thanks I am also trying to understand kpu also. I just cannot get better and don't know what to do

KPU is a problem with hemoglobin (the red pigment in blood), made worse by severe zinc deficiency.

Taking Dr. K's CORE, or even just a high potency zinc supplement, can help tremendously from what I understand about this.

MTHFR is an enzyme in the methylation cycle that is involved with the conversion of Folic Acid to the active form of Folate (methyl-folate).

A mutation in this gene causes one to be unable to convert Folic Acid to methyl-folate.

The solution is to take methyl-folate as a supplement, along with either methyl-B12 or hydroxy-B12.

Treating either KPU or MTHFR can improve one's ability to detox, and some even find they have to start the supplements slowly or else they get too much detoxing at once and feel sick.

I hope this helps...take care,

I tested positive for the gene responsible for this.

Results in high levels of Homocysteine in the body due to inability to convert Folic Acid.

For me it results in chronic migraine auras and it increases your risk for stroke and other cardio problems. Methyl Protect is a good supplement but your Doc can prescribe as well.

Do not take too much too fast or you could have a chemical sensitivity type of reaction.

Thank you all for your responses. I think maybe I should be tested. I just cannot get this under control, feel like things are worse instead of getting better, and there are some herbs and antibiotics I cannot take because I herx so badly. I am also wondering about HLA? Trying to figure out where to start, thanks
