Where is the pain, do you only have it with bending your knees? Any information would be appreciated.

Its so bizarre, I took a bad fall in December. A few weeks later both knees began to hurt, in the back, when I bend them all the way. One knee was actually swollen in the back and ice would help.

And my left hip hurts when I pull my legs in, in the front which I assume is the joint.

I have minimal Lyme symptoms at this point and I have never had any other joint pain besides my wrist.

Figured I ask before I head to my orthopedist for the usual x-rays, MRI's etc....

If it's not one thing its another!

Knee pain was my first symptom, long before I knew or even became very ill.

Knee pain for years was daily 24/7. Now I only experience knee pain attention during a monthly flare up.

My pain is under both knee caps. I apply Tiger Balm or White Flower ointment all around the outer edge of the knee cap and it seems to soak it's way down into the inflammed area.

I also feel my knee pain during walking up or down stairs. Never had the hip issues, thank goodness. Many talk about how painful the hip joint pain can be.

My knees were the first casualty of Lyme. I had pain under both knee caps and eventually had to have surgery for a torn meniscus.

Now I have almost no cartilage under my patella on both knees. They ache and sometimes the pain can be sharp.

I use lidoderm patches and essential oils depending on how much they hurt. I also lost over 100 lbs which helped.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. Your knee pain sounds rough.

What has me concerned is how I have pain in both knees. Seems unlikely I would injure both but who knows.

The pain is in the back of the knee. When I bend my knees all the way into my chest it hurts behind my knees. My right is worse then my left.

I like to do yoga which I could never do right now. Felt it lifting weights this morning and stretching afterwords.

Maybe its my age...approaching mid 40's!

Anyone else want to share what Lyme knee pain is like?

The swelling behind the knee sounds like baker's cyst. I have them bilaterally.

The pain at times is like an ice pick through the knee and often results in muscle spasms in the thigh.

I think one of mine may have ruptured as now my one calf down to my foot is larger than the other.

Pocono lyme, I agree with the ice pick feeling. How were the cysts diagnosed? Symptoms alone or MRI?

Anything that can be done for them?

Sorry to hear about your calf. Is the pain behind your knee better at least? I hope so!

I guess it depends on what's going on with the knee area. My knee pain is reduced by taking turmeric capsules, getting lymph drainage massage, and waving a redlight gadget with 660n red light around the area - also for any joints - and the pain greatly reduces.

I used the SOTA Magnetic Pulser to fix the pain in my right knee.

It's been very helpful for joint pain.

My knee pain started in my left knee 6 years ago. All of a sudden, I was in horrible pain that nothing helped. Nothing. I could not sleep, sit, walk. Supartz shots did not help. That went away after a year and then 4 years later the same thing happened to my right knee. A nightmare of pain with no relief. When I went on antibiotics, the raw pain that kept me crying day and night went away. Then both of my knees started hurting but the pain is not a ripping pain that does not go away. It is more of an ache and I am able to now walk through stores and enjoy life a bit more.

What is my knee pain like? EXCRUCIATING! and nothing to date has helped - yrs ago I was put on Vioxx, Celebrex, curcumin, etc etc... nothing has touched it. No wonder I can't walk ( all my joints kill me).

Re: the back-of-the-knee pain a massage therapist told me that a lot of muscles meet at that area, and in my case even the side of the hip, etc.. so no wonder the hip pain is bad.

I've done the physio, been there with so many things waaay back and now I'm focusing on getting the germ load down. Sorry -no answers, sounds like you need to see a sports medicine doc or as you said, an orthopedist. Good luck!
