I know...I know...May have just as well poured poision into my mouth.

I use to drink it ALL the time (gross!) and now MAYBE drink it once a year. I think the half life is something like 8 months?

Anyway, I lost my mind for a moment and drank a diet coke. Now my face is twitchy! Lips and eyes and getting a migraine aura. Why?

Is it the conversion of the chemicals to formaldayde? Next time I will just say no...or just have the real thing.

I was absolutely addicted to Diet Coke prior to Lyme treatment. It had to be the fountain kind, ex. from McDonalds.

Makes sense you had those symptoms since Aspartame is a neurotoxin.

Aspartame is a neurotoxin & a poison. It should have never been approved by the FDA.

I don't drink soda. If I did drink Coke - I would get the kind with real cane sugar & not high fructose corn syrup.

It's actually the anniversary of Coke today or yesterday. I just happened to read about it. They used to use coca leaf in the original recepie.

I also was watching a documentary about coca leaves last night. Interesting what happened there - if anyone is interested...

Aspartame .. Toxic!

I think artificial sweeteners can also grow yeast.

Just did a search and believe it or not aspartame kills ants and makes worms explode. I suspected your symptoms were from a herx from the coke but didn't know why.

That being said, there are much better choices that are safe for killing parasites. Just didn't want you to feel too guilty and to let you know it didn't agree with the bugs either. [Big Grin]

Neurotoxin - Bingo! Since I am a Neurotoxic mess it makes sense I would react so quickly to it. Come to think of it, Diet Coke always made my visual flashing lights worse.

I use to be addicted too and feel like I fell off the wagon today as I do once a year. I added some gluten pretzels to the party as well. I use to love my Diet Coke and pretzels. Ahhh. those were the days.

Anyway, I like the idea of the type of cola that is made from real cane sugar. I suppose that could come from a health food store for special occasions.

Perfect timing - guess I needed to honor the anniversary of Coke! [Smile] . Now, back to water and lemon.

Lymetoo; Okay so I will double up on my pro.'s and nystatin. I too recall something about aspartame feeding yeast. I know - bad move on my part. I should have just eaten some cheesecake.

Thanks Gael; Bombs away to those nasty parasites. I am starting on a new med. protocol for parasites tomorrow so this was a nice pre-heat for the bugs!

desertwind .. and the pretzels didn't help that yeast! [Smile]

Aspartame is neurotoxic, as LymeToo mentions.

Magnesium can help bring that down.

Ironically, Have have been addicted to diet Coke too, well even before the Lyme diagnosis.

It went well beyond the caffeine. It was one of the few things that acted as a decent anti-inflammatory, even better then what my doctor prescribed me.

Wow, I had no idea it was a neurotoxin! I guess all sodas, like pepsi also?

I have a confession to make too. Every once in a while I binge on Diet Sunkist orange soda and gluten free pretzels, you are not alone...

Pepsi Throwback is made with real sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, and it's available year round now. That was my soda of choice prior to being told I could no longer have sugar. [Frown]

For a truly delicious and nutritious beverage: Hibiscus Tea

Green Teas, too. Other herbal teas. Meet them all. For a start:

The Tao of Tea

- scroll down to see all their categories.

They use ZERO "natural flavors" (which are nearly always chemicals to hook us) - they don't have to as all the flavor comes from nature, itself. And nature gives us perfection in some of these fabulous teas.

Okay, so I am not the only one...good to know! When in need I will check out the Pepsi Throwback.

I cannot complain about my bloated gut that I have today for my going off the wagon yesterday. Can't be perfect all the time!

Didn't they used to say coke can take rust off cars? Or did my mom just tell me that?! former diet coke addict myself

But seriously, what do you all eat for a sweet treat?

Posted by desertwind (Member # 25256) on :

I betcha your Mom was right....

I typically eat something sweet once a month. I just allow myself to have a gluten free/dairy free dessert once a month and that seems to do the trick for me.

I found these really yummy coconut macarooms that are gluten/dairy/corn/anything bad free. They taste really sweet but only have something like 2 grams of sugar in them. Raw brand I believe and I get them at Whole Foods.

I love coconut macaroons-thanks for the tip

I know me and if I don't get anything sweet, I will end up binging. sad to admit but true

That is so true! A little something helps to curb that craving!

Definately check out those coconut macaroons - only a few raw ingrediants in them and they are so yummy.

I've been on a strict anti-candida diet and diflucan for a while now. I've been really, really good about it.

I must admit (only here!) that I cheated today and had an ice cream cone.

Interestingly, it wasn't all that I had hoped it would be. Perhaps that will discourage me from veering off my path again!

That's not bad Bitten. I crave carbs more than sugar. I had 3 1/2 peanut butter sandwiches today. I know peanut butter is loaded with molds and toxins, but I missed it so much. I looked at the jar in the store. It looked so lovely and creamy. It made me put it in my cart (lol)! The funny thing is, I feel good though!

Any diet drinks are toxic... unless you find one of the few in a health food store that contains ONLY stevia.

So either you become a cesspool of toxins or you consume the ones with real sugar and become a haven for YEAST!

My BIL used diet coke to take the old varnish off of his wood floors. True story!
