Well, it's official. We already knew that zithromax could cause prolonged QT intervals, which can be dangerous.

But now the FDA has finally chimed in with additional warnings that expand the risk even further.

The new warnings state that people with low blood levels of potassium or magnesium, a slower than normal heart rate, or use of certain drugs used to treat abnormal heart rhythms, or arrhythmias also need to be cautious.

That is exactly what happened when I took zith. The pharmacy didn't have any warnings with the drug insert at all.

I have low blood pressure and bradycardia. I could hardly walk while taking it. I figured it out myself from reading on the internet and told my LLMD about it. We changed to a different drug.

One article suggested it's due to magnesium deficiency. Zith might cause magnesium deficiency or accentuate or - ? - but one important detail is that

magnesium deficiency can cause trouble for heart rhythm. It's important for those with lyme to be well aware as lyme, itself, can cause magnesium deficiency.

Both times I tried to take zithromax (years apart) I ended up with heart irregularities and had to stop taking the med.

Glad they are finally putting a warning on it.

Our daugher was on Zith for 2 years and we didn't see this. I see levofloxacin has the same risk level and I'm thinking she may have this added in the near future for Bart.
