My mother in law had a horrible flu. She waited til she was 'better' to come over but she was still coughing a bit. I have been Feeling AWFUL today and now like I can't get a decent breath and completely out of breath. I am scared by this! Is this a normal reaction to the flu.? Or cold it be a Lyme thing. Whatever it is it's scaring me very badly!

Gigi - I don't know. Are you coughing, sneezing, stopped up - any of those symptoms?

I had a bad time with the flu. Horrible coughing, wheezing, chest congestion. You should see your doc or go go the ER. You may temporarily need a steroid inhaler to open things up or if severe an oral steroid.

If you cannot breathe you may need oral steroids. If you do not use them things could get worse and then you could be forced to take systemic steroids.

Babesiosis can cause air hunger and shortness of breath. Do you have it? Do you have other flu-type symptoms?

Yes I tested pos for babs but I have a snifflynose and horribly painful muscles and nausea.

The breathing is better but now it feels like my stomach is going to explode and can't stop burping. Does this sound like food poisoning?

These burps are awful and taste like rotten eggs. I have been looking this up and it could be giardia, (have a 2 yr old son). I guess I need to see the doctor.

It sounds like a combo of the flu and babs. I hope you feel better soon.

Don't take oral steroids unless your life depends on it.

Nasonex is an topical spray steroid for the nose and that is okay to use. You need a prescription for that but it may get you through this flu. Allergy season is here and this spray can help with that too. My LLMD ok'd the spray but no pills or shots.

When I had the flu two years ago, my LLMD gave me the Advair Inhaler to open things up.

Feel better!
