I have been taking doxy for the most part, and herbs off and on for the past yr and a half. I know that this is not a good way to get rid of lyme but I don't tolerate abx, or most things for that matter, very well and low dose doxy at least kept some symptoms at bay.

I have taken flagyl a couple of times and there was a very bad herx so I backed away.

Anyway, after taking only one abx for over a yr I am concerned that I need to try flagyl again.

How should I take it? Alone or with doxy(for me that would make it much harder as I don't know if I could handle the herxing) or maybe take only flagyl for several weeks?

Any tips would be very much appreciated!
Thanks

i've been taking flagyl 500 twice per day for two weeks for something else. no side effects so far and no herx.

i've been told two things, one with diary and one to avoid, so i just avoid dairy to make sure.

Thanks randibear I'm glad you have done well with flagyl. Are you almost done with treatment?

I know from the few times I took it that it does cause a significant herx but I also somehow felt more clear mentally for a few days despite the herx if that makes sense.

I really want to give flagyl a fair try to see if I can improve. I am very concerned about not having used a cyst buster all this time.

I just wanna know how I should take it, with abx or without? How long? I wanna say someone on this board mentioned going on flagyl alone for a while because they had only previously treated with one abx (momotherapy) for a long time.

I would want to take it with antibiotics. I would also be careful to protect your liver. Flagyl was the only thing I took in over 2 yrs that impacted my liver testing

Start this drug with just a sliver, and very very slowly increase it. And you can pulse it, several days a week or some other schedule.

Take with doxy as you need to hit multiple forms of the bacteria.

I'm starting flagyl tomorrow... am kinda scared!! I am doing two 3-week pulses, with a 3 week break in-between. After reading some of these posts, I think I will start with 1/2 pill to see how that goes.

My LLNP says I need to take flagyl with doxy or a Macrolide, such as zithromycin, biaxin, etc. This will kill off the spirochetes once they emerge from the cyst. I've read that other LLMDs recommend this approach as well.

Good luck to you!

You ask about taking a drug that is very stressful to the liver and to the ears . . . alone.

Other than other anti-infective Rx combination treate (usually best for infection coverage but best guided by a good LL doctor) . . .

. . . I'm just talking about the support methods.

Always be sure to include liver support each day. Always.

Not at the same time as actually swallowing an Rx, but never go without liver support during any treatment protocol. Why? How that can help tremendously:

LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too.
